Legal Affairs Consultant
UNCTAD - United Nations Conference on Trade and Development Remote | Geneva level Speaks English, French Application deadline: The Legal Affairs Consultant will support UNCTAD in delivering key outputs for the Investment Policies Branch, focusing on enhancing investment policymaking for a sustainable digital economy in Africa. The consultant will conduct research and analysis of investment-related legal frameworks and contribute to the preparation of assessment reports and training workshops. This role involves collaboration with the Project Officer and IPR Section to finalize reports and prepare materials for workshops in Mauritania and Sierra Leone. The position requires a strong background in legal research and analysis, particularly in the context of developing countries.
Advanced university degree in law or related field
At least 3 years of work experience in legal framework research and analysis
At least 2 years of experience with legal frameworks of developing countries (desirable)
At least 6 months of experience in research and analysis in international investment in the digital economy (desirable)
At least 6 months of experience in technical assistance and preparing training material (desirable)
Fluency in written and spoken English and French
The consultant will enable UNCTAD to deliver key outputs of the Investment Policies Branch for the beneficiary countries, particularly the implementation of the project "Improved investment policymaking to foster an inclusive, responsible and sustainable digital economy in Africa".
Work Location: Home based
The consultant will undertake research and analysis of investment and investment-related legal frameworks in the context of the digital economy. This will enable the consultant to contribute to the elaboration of assessment reports and in the preparation of training workshops in the context of the project Improved investment policymaking to foster an inclusive, responsible and sustainable digital economy in Africa. Under the supervision of the Project Officer and in collaboration with the IPR Section, the incumbent will carry out the following functions:
1) Research, analyse and write of assessment reports for beneficiary countries of the project:

Research and analyze investment in the digital economy strategies, policies and legal frameworks for the preparation of assessment reports for other beneficiary countries of the project.
2) Contribute to the preparation of validation and training workshops based on the assessment reports:

Based on the findings of the assessment reports conducted, prepare presentations for the validation workshop in Mauritania to discuss analysis and recommendations to improve investment policymaking to foster an inclusive, responsible and sustainable digital economy in Africa.
Based on the findings identified in the assessment reports conducted, prepare material for the training workshops to build capacity in designing inclusive investment policies for the digital economy in Mauritania and Sierra Leone.
Participate in the national validation workshop and training workshops in Nouakchott (Mauritania), including by presenting the assessment findings and contributing to delivering the capacity-building sessions.
An advanced university degree, Master, in law, or related field, is required. At least 3 years of work experience in legal framework research and analysis is required. At least 2 years of work experience dealing with legal frameworks of developing countries is desirable. At least six months of work experience in research and analysis in international investment in the digital economy is desirable. At least six months of work experience in technical assistance, including preparing training material, is desirable.
Languages: Fluency written and spoken in English and French is required.
