SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE
The Welder is responsible for performing quality welds while meeting all quality and safety standards. Under ongoing supervision, welds, cleans cuts and grinds. Assists in the departmental housekeeping and safety efforts and works collaboratively with other members of the department and production counterparts to ensure production workflow.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Safely and efficiently, use welding equipment such as welding machine, grinder and cutting torch.
Cleans, grinds welds and end finish as required.
Lays out, positions, aligns, and fits components together.
Repair welds to required specifications.
Use of tools for cutting and fitting offset.
Perform x-ray quality welds.
Properly identify (mark) pipe with spray paint or stamper.
Inspects, cleans and performs basic preventative maintenance on welding tools and equipment.
Identify and report any unsafe working conditions or equipment.
Follows all OSHA safety requirements, work rules and instructions, ISO procedures, job safety analysis (JSAs) and company policies and promotes a safe culture.
Regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
Performs other duties as assigned by the lead or supervisor.
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Complete and maintain all required paperwork.
May provide support to the fabrication department.
Participates in all inventories, safety meetings and ISO audits.
Maintain housekeeping within all production, storage and waste areas.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
WORK HOURS / SHIFT
Work hours vary or change based on operational needs.
Must be able to work on Saturdays and overtime as required.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
One year certified welding experience in a heavy manufacturing environment preferred.
Current / valid certification in FCAW 2G and 3G and SMAW 2G, 3G and 7018 preferred.
Two or more years of experience as a certified welder in a pipe manufacturing facility highly preferred.
WELDER I
This level of Welder is responsible for performing quality welds requiring little or minimum experience and must be certified welders or be able to pass a weld test. Individuals in this position work with and around, and operate, various hand tools and welding equipment. Work normally is performed under close supervision; however, close supervision is not always available for routine and repetitive tasks, which can be carried on without difficulty once they are learned. As work experience is gained and additional welding certification are obtained, the employee may be assigned to tasks that are more difficult in nature and require more responsibility.WELDER II
This level of Welder is responsible for performing duties described for a Welder I. This level of welder requires additional training, skills, certification, and experience and must receive the appropriate score on the plant specific Welder Level Card. Work normally is performed under limited to close supervision. As additional experience is gained, the employee may be assigned to tasks that are more difficult in nature and require more responsibility.WELDER III
This level of Welder is responsible for performing duties described for a Welder II. This level of welder possess advanced qualifications, experience, and must receive the appropriate score on the plant specific Welder Level Card. Work normally is performed under minimal supervision. Employees in this position may be responsible for providing on-the-job training to new employees.PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
Physical Activity Up to 2/3 of the time:Standing: Remaining upright in a stationary position, particularly for sustained periods.
Walking: Moving about to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward downward or outward.
Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw drag haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
Lifting: Raising object from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from.
Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm to hammers grinders welding lead.
Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers such as grinding.
Less than 1/3 of the time:
Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces.
Stooping: Position self to checking pipe; this factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
Kneeling/Crouching: Position self to checking pipe.
Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm as in handling to holding stud stamps.
Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin particularly that of fingertips.
Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately loudly or quickly.
Communicating: Expressing or exchanging ideas and information accurately, in written or diagram form.
Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correct, having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sounds.
Physical Requirements
Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures transcribing viewing a computer terminal extensive reading visual inspection involving small defects small parts and/or operation of machines (including inspection) using measurement devices and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.
Vision Requirements
Up to 2/3 of the time, the worker is required to have:
Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less)
Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish color)
Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point)
Depth perception (three dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships)
Less than 1/3 of the time:
Distance vision (clear vison at 20 feet or more)
The worker will not be required to have any special vision.
Weather Conditions
Over 2/3 of the time:
The worker is subject to vibration: Exposure to oscillating movements to the extremities or whole body.
Up to 2/3 of the time:
The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
The worker is subject to extreme heat: Temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour. Consideration should be given to the effect of other environmental conditions such as wind and humidity.
The worker is subject to noise: There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
The worker is subjects to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts moving vehicles electrical current working on scaffolding and high places exposure to high heat or exposure to chemical.
The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affects the respiratory system of the skin: Fumes odors, dusts mists gases or poor ventilation.
Less than 1/3 of the time:
The worker is subject to both environment conditions: activities occur inside and outside.
The worker is subject to extreme cold: Temperatures typically below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour (Consideration should be given to the effect of other environmental conditions such as wind and humidity.)
The worker frequently is in close quarters crawl spaces, shafts man holes small enclosed rooms, small sewage and water line pipes, and other areas which could cause claustrophobia.
Over 2/3 of the time:
Loud noise (Examples metal can be manufacturing department large earth-moving equipment)
Very loud noise (example jack hammer work front row at rock concert.)
Less than 1/3 of the time:
Very quiet conditions (example: forest trail, isolation booth for hearing test)
Quiet conditions (examples library private office)
Moderate noise (examples business office with computers and printers light traffic).
Supervision Received
Close Supervision: The incumbent is assigned duties according to specified procedures and receives detailed instructions. Work is checked frequently.
