Meteorologist - Remote Position

You will serve as a METEOROLOGIST (TDO- HEAD OF FORECAST OPERATIONS) in the JOINT TYPHOON WARNING CENTER of JOINT TYPHOON WARCEN PEARL HARBOR HI.
You will serve as the senior forecast authority on the watch floor, overseeing the timeliness, quality, and consistency of all tropical cyclone (TC) forecast, warning, and decision support products for the Department of Defense (DoD).
You will exercise technical direction over all watch floor forecast functions.
You will obtain and maintain full qualification as a Typhoon Duty Officer (TDO), stand routine operational shifts, and provide binding decisions during complex, high-impact tropical cyclone events.
You will conduct continuity of operations (COOP) exercises to ensure readiness for uninterrupted warning production.
You will serve as the first-level supervisor for U.You will manage the watch bill to ensure 24/7 coverage, evaluate forecast philosophy, and make TDO qualification recommendations.
You will act as a subject matter expert for senior leaders, representing JTWC at specialized national/international meetings (e.g., You will oversee forecast coordination with partner agencies like the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and coordinate with internal/external departments regarding software, data pipelines, and service restoration.
You will assess watch floor performance, update standard operating procedures, coordinate training requirements, maintain watch team replacement plans, and facilitate integration of new tools and technologies into 24/7 operations.

Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This is a bargaining unit position.
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. You will be subject to random testing.
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Incumbent will be required to work periodic shifts, irregular hours, overtime, and be subject to recall to support unscheduled weather support or emergency requirements.
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Advanced knowledge (doctoral-level highly desired) of meteorological concepts, principles, and theories, specifically focusing on complex tropical cyclone (TC) dynamics, analysis and forecasting.
Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and supervise a diverse, joint-service workforce in a high-stress, 24/7 watch floor operational environment producing authoritative meteorological products for chaotic global weather systems under severe time constraints.
Experience and skill in effectively communicating complex scientific concepts and operational impacts to diverse audiences, from watch floor personnel, to senior organizational leadership in government, to national and international research centers and scientific partners.

At least 24 semester (36 quarter) hours of credit in meteorology/atmospheric science including a minimum of:
Six semester hours of analysis and prediction of weather systems (synoptic/mesoscale)
Two semester hours of remote sensing of the atmosphere and/or instrumentation.
Six semester hours of physics, with at least one course that includes laboratory sessions.
At least nine semester hours of course work appropriate for a physical science major in any combination of three or more of the following: physical hydrology, statistics, chemistry, physical oceanography, physical climatology, radiative transfer, aeronomy, advanced thermodynamics, advanced electricity and magnetism, light and optics, and computer science.
There is a prerequisite or corequisite of calculus for course work in atmospheric dynamics and thermodynamics, physics, and differential equations. Calculus courses must be appropriate for a physical science major.
Combination of education and experience course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
