University of Maryland Medical Center - Midtown Campus is a 200‑bed non‑profit, community teaching hospital located in Baltimore’s cultural center near the historic Mount Vernon neighborhood. It is part of the University of Maryland Medical System and has a long history of keeping the community healthy.

Under general supervision, the Laboratory Technician performs analyses on a variety of sample types, maintains proper records, and uses independent judgment to generate acceptable test results. The role focuses on quality, efficiency, and safety in laboratory functions and serves as a fully effective and participative member of the multidisciplinary patient‑care services team.

Independently performs waived, moderate, and high complexity testing using manual and automated processes, complying with regulatory agency guidelines (CLIA 88, TJC, CAP, FDA, etc.).

Identifies and resolves analytical problems, troubleshoots equipment issues, and takes corrective action in evaluating testing procedures, patient results, and specimen integrity; Reviews and records quality control, determining the acceptability of testing, patient results, and instrument function by applying QA/QC principles daily.

Responds to clinical and customer concerns, resolving issues confidentially with integrity and discretion.

Troubleshoots and resolves problems, documenting corrective actions.

Attends and leads mandatory education, training, and in‑service meetings specific to the department.

Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, biology or related sciences, or an Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, or completion of a Military Laboratory Technology program, with a minimum of three years of clinical laboratory experience.

For candidates without a Bachelor’s degree, a minimum of three years of experience in a clinical laboratory with an Associate’s degree or Military Laboratory Technician program is required.
