Senior Commissioned Investigator - Compliance & Investigations Bureau
Responsibilities

Direct or conduct investigations of suspected violations and incidents related to fraud within the Department of Revenue; interview or direct interviews of staff, victims, suspects, and witnesses to obtain verbal and written statements; obtain evidence and ensure adherence to chain of custody standards, maintaining proper custodial control.

Locate and interview individuals and representatives of business or governmental entities to obtain evidence of suspected violations or diversion efforts.

Ensure compliance and initiate enforcement of state statutes and regulations regarding motor vehicle dealers, marine dealers, salvage businesses, towing companies, and contracted DMV license offices.

Serve as liaison with internal staff, law enforcement agencies, prosecuting attorneys, and other governmental entities during investigative and surveillance activities to secure appropriate results.

Administer instructive courses to external law enforcement agencies on the roles and responsibilities of the Department of Revenue.

Compile, analyze, evaluate, and preserve facts, statements, affidavits, and other evidence for use in legal actions; prepare detailed reports of investigative findings.

Conduct confidential internal investigations of staff involving theft, misfeasance, malfeasance of state funds, or abuse of programs or policies.

Examine and analyze a variety of records to secure information concerning suspected violations of federal, state, and local laws and/or regulations.

Prepare and issue subpoenas.

Testify in criminal, civil, and administrative proceedings.

Exercise independence and initiative in performing responsibilities; receive general administrative direction.

Perform other related work as assigned.

Qualifications

Possession of a current Missouri Peace Officer License in good standing.

Possession of a high school diploma or proof of high‑school equivalency.

Computer literate with a good understanding of the Microsoft Office suite.

Ability to write well‑written reports with proper grammar and spelling.

Prior investigative or auditing experience in financial or resource investigations, civil, administrative, or criminal investigative experience (e.g., tax fraud, business licensing, ID fraud), or experience as a law‑enforcement officer.

Preferred

Five (5) or more years of experience in law enforcement or a closely related field.

Bachelor's Degree with emphasis in Criminal Justice, Accounting, Auditing, or related areas, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge of and experience with Missouri’s motor vehicle, driver license, and dealership laws/regulations.
