Shift Material Handler - Full and Part Time Positions

This position is part of the Agency Support Operations, Government Publishing Office in Washington, DC.

Operates an electric powered lift trucks having a lift capacity up to 4,000 pounds and capable of carrying, lifting, and stacking loads of metal and debris waste of varying dimensions.
Receives incoming and outgoing shipments including new procurement, receipts and returns from using activities.
Processes and verifies quantities and condition of materials and equipment.
Checks for property/part number, nomenclature, quantity, and condition for agreement with accompanying documents.

Work Conditions: Work is frequently performedin a warehouse environment, indoors, usually on concrete floors and warehouse areas that may not be climate controlled.
Selectee may be required work occassional overtime, including weekends and holidays.

Applicants must have experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to independently perform the duties typically required of a Materials Handler. Operating forklifts, pallet jacks, or similar material handling equipment.
Storing, stacking, palletizing, and moving materials within a warehouse environment.
Maintaining inventory records and shipping/receiving documentation..
Applicants must meet the following Screen-Out element , Job Element 73 Ability to do the work of a Materials Handler (PPW) without more than normal supervision to be considered for this position. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the online questionnaire. Have completed a formal, recognized apprenticeship or GPO journeyperson training program, or possess substantially equivalent practical experience in the trade of the vacancy; Have at least 1 year of journeyperson experience subsequent to completion of the above apprenticeship or training; Have served a minimum of 1 year in Career or Career-Conditional appointment in the GPO.(Have served at least 1 year in an administrative or supervisory capacity.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. The GPO offers Transit subsidy for commuters using public transportation (Metro Bus/Rail, MARC, VRE, etc.).
