Senior Phlebotomist - PHLEBOTOMY

Overview Texas Oncology is looking for a Phlebotomist to join its Boerne, TX location. Hours are 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities Perform phlebotomy and collect appropriate specimens from patients as ordered. Assure pre‑authorizations and complete appropriate consent prior to collection of limited coverage tests.

Maintain proper documentation as described by the quality assurance program, including accessioning logs, equipment records and checklists.

Maintain adequate inventory of supplies and ensure all supplies are viable before use for patient collection.

Send specimens to reference laboratories for testing not performed in house.

Process incoming orders for lab testing.

Process in‑house and incoming reports.

Update and file all daily paperwork, lab logs and maintenance logs.

Properly identify and band patients for blood‑product transfusion. Process properly labelled specimens according to local bloodbank policy.

Operate designated laboratory equipment as directed.

Use equipment effectively, skillfully and efficiently. Maintain equipment and work area as directed.

Perform waived lab testing under CLIA guidelines for personnel. Record proper lot numbers of all controls, calibrator and reagents for waived lab tests.

Comply with regulatory agency standards. Adhere to all OSHA compliance laws and Universal Precaution procedures.

Properly dispose of hazardous materials.

Maintain a clean working environment and restock the phlebotomy and laboratory area as needed.

Maintain confidentiality of all information related to patients and medical staff.

Qualifications Level 1 – Entry level, no experience required.

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Licensure from an accredited school of phlebotomy recommended.

Current state licensure if applicable.

Level 2 – Requires three years of experience in addition to Level 1 requirements.

Position requires three years of experience.

Level Sr – Requires five or more years of experience in addition to Level 1 and 2 requirements.

Position requires five or more years of experience.

Physical Demands Physical demands include full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity, eye‑hand coordination, sitting/standing for extended periods, handling and operating laboratory equipment, occasional lifting up to 40 lbs., corrected vision, color perception, hearing to normal range, and legible handwriting.

Work Environment Work environment includes regular exposure to direct contact with patients, possible exposure to blood/body fluids, chemotherapeutic agents or transmittable infections, corrosive chemicals, infectious agents, handling glassware and needles.
