Education Reporter (Full Time)
$60k - $65kNews, a hyperlocal, nonprofit digital news site in Brookline, MA, is seeking a reporter to join our staff. It’s an opportunity to be part of our small-but-mighty team in a great news town.
Your primary beat will be covering Brookline’s schools, writing news and feature stories about issues facing students, teachers and parents. You’ll be covering intense policy debates at School Committee meetings, writing about changes in the school administration and budgets, highlighting events and celebrations, and taking on in-depth reporting on issues such as educational equity and academic rigor.
You will also assist with managing our social media accounts and producing newsletters.
This position is full-time, working 40 hours a week, and involves regular evening work (usually on Thursdays) and occasional weekend work. You’ll be expected to spend at least one day a week working in person at our shared office space in Brookline Village.
The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience as a reporter for a professional news outlet. Education reporting experience is preferred. Experience or knowledge of Massachusetts and Brookline education issues is a strong plus, as is video and multimedia experience.
That includes a base salary of $62,400 plus a 20% benefit stipend that can be used to purchase benefits such as health insurance, to deposit into a retirement account, or to enhance your take-home pay, depending on individual circumstances and needs.
