Job Summary

The registered nurse (RN) is a licensed professional responsible for facilitating and coordinating patient care within a multidisciplinary healthcare team, following physician orders. Using the nursing process, the RN assesses patients, identifies nursing diagnoses based on patient conditions, develops and implements focused care plans, and evaluates patient responses.

The RN communicates patient data to the healthcare team, makes recommendations for interventions, delegates nursing tasks appropriately, collaborates with other healthcare providers, and documents outcomes in the medical record. The RN creates individualized, culturally sensitive care plans that promote wellness and healing, while considering patient diversity, age, and specific needs.

Delegating interventions to qualified healthcare personnel is guided by the Texas Nursing Practice Act and regulatory standards, aiming to minimize risks and ensure safety. The RN applies clinical judgment, advocates for patients, educates patients and families, and collaborates with staff to deliver high-quality care.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Coordinate nursing care, prioritize tasks, and delegate activities based on patient needs and staff capabilities.

Communicate assessment data, reports, and participate in interdisciplinary rounds promptly.

Advocate for patients and families, ensuring their needs and differences are respected and incorporated into care plans.

Assist team members in providing care, including direct nursing duties when necessary.

Deliver nonjudgmental, nondiscriminatory care respecting cultural, spiritual, gender, racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, age, and value differences.

Assess patient and family understanding to facilitate effective communication.

Minimum Qualifications

Active nursing license in Texas

No prior experience required

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Working Conditions

Physical: Ability to stand, walk, or lift moderate weights (20-50 lbs.) frequently.

Environment: Indoor setting with exposure to dust, fumes, temperature variations, and noise.

Respiratory: Potential exposure to aerosolized particles and infectious droplets, with required respiratory protection.

Hazard Category: Bloodborne Pathogen Category 1, involving exposure to blood and body fluids.
