City Water And Wastewater Utility Technician
Operates and maintains the City's water and wastewater utility systems, including plant equipment, lift stations, and electrical components. This role requires technical expertise in safety procedures and system service to ensure efficient operations. Candidates must participate in an "on-call" rotation, respond to after-hours emergencies, and comply with DOT random drug and alcohol testing requirements.
Installs, troubleshoots, repairs, tests and maintains emergency generators, power distribution systems and various electrical systems, components and equipment to ensure proper operation.
Identifies defective equipment and repairs or replaces equipment.
Responds to emergency service calls for electrical services or repairs.
Assists other trades workers in troubleshooting facility problems.
Determines the need for electrical system parts and supplies; orders and maintains adequate stock levels.
Performs work in accordance with local and national electrical codes and regulations.
Cleans, maintains tools and equipment. Loads and unloads trucks.
Determines the cost and type of materials needed for electrical projects.
The ability to perform on-call duties by responding to water or wastewater facilities/equipment failures 24/7; repair issues at night or during storm events where electrical and mechanical failure can occur.
High School diploma or GED.
Minimum 4 years of related work experience or on the job training as an Apprentice Electrician, Journeyman Electrician, or Electrician.
Journeyman Electrician License through TDLR or equivalent.
TCEQ Class "I" Collection License and/or a TCEQ "D" Water License
Five or more years of related work experience or on the job training as an Apprentice Electrician, Journeyman Electrician, or Electrician.
Associates degree or higher in a related field.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to work hours other than the regular daytime schedule such as shift work, on call, or emergency response situations (i.e., early-mornings, afternoons, evenings, and late-nights shifts, weekends).
Must be able to wear city provided uniform and city issued personal protective equipment, steel-toed leather boots, gloves, eye protection, head protection, safety vest, and ear protection.
Workers must be in compliance with safety procedures and usage of safety equipment.
Workers must be able to follow safety procedures and usage of safety equipment to ensure personal, public, and personnel safety.
Skill in operating assigned equipment tools and vehicles safely.
Possess basic knowledge in the operation and maintenance of vehicles, equipment, heavy (vehicular) construction equipment, pumps and equipment used in and around water and wastewater systems. Possess familiarity with hand and power tools and equipment commonly used in the maintenance of vehicles, equipment, structures and buildings.
