Intake RN – Acute (Eagle View Behavioral Health, Bettendorf, Iowa)

Purpose Statement: The Intake RN performs daily operations of patient intake and/or admissions, including screening, financial counseling, insurance verification, and assessment at or outside the facility, depending on the needs of the patient or hospital. They screen and assess admissions to evaluate clinical and medical appropriateness and communicate this information to a physician who makes the admissions and level of care decision.

Provide initial evaluation and initiate integrated assessment, documenting patient symptoms, functioning, and needs.

Collaborate with facility medical and psychiatric staff to ensure appropriate recommendations and admissions.

Communicate projected admissions to designated internal representative promptly.

Provide additional coverage for the Call Center Team, answering phones, processing admission requests, reviewing/accepting patients, verifying insurance, and assisting with pre‑certifications during high volume periods.

Gather all medical admission documentation from external sources prior to admission and secure initial pre‑authorization for treatment and admission.

Review patient charts to determine medical necessity, staff each referral and assessment with appropriate physician to obtain orders, recommendations, and DSM‑V diagnosis as appropriate.

May administer patients’ medications and follow all physician orders in consultation with psychiatrist and per hospital and licensing protocols; educate patients on side effects, monitor compliance, adjust medications under supervision, and monitor lab results.

Advocate for the lowest level of care consistent with the patient’s needs.

Coordinate admission and transfer between levels of care within the facility.

Ensure thorough, accurate documentation for all patients each shift and facilitate response to requests for services, including initial response, assessment, referral, and appropriate follow‑up activity.

Respond to inquiries about the facility within policy timeframes.

Education, Experience, and Skill Requirements Graduation from an accredited school of nursing required; One or more years of experience in mental health or substance use disorder admissions preferred.

Experience in clinical interviewing, patient assessment, referral, treatment planning, and communicating with external review organizations or comparable entities.

Experience in managed care pre‑certification process, level of care assessments, and utilization management.

Skill in telephone etiquette and paging procedures.

Licenses, Designations, and Certifications Valid current RN license from the state or compact state, as applicable.

CPR and de‑escalation and restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).

First aid may be required based on state or facility requirements.

Work Location This position is onsite at the facility and is not a remote position.
