Summer 2026 Lifeguard Position at McNear's Beach Pool

Senior Lifeguards will be assigned to work the season at McNear's Beach Park in San Rafael. McNear's Beach pool is open for recreational swimming daily from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm between May and the beginning of September. Senior Lifeguards can expect to work between two and five days a week. Flexible schedules will be considered.

Duties may include, but are not limited to: Supervising a small staff of seasonal Lifeguards; providing ongoing training to staff; assisting in evaluating Lifeguard staff and making recommendations regarding performance evaluations to the Supervising Park Ranger; ensuring that the proper level of first aid supplies are available on site; enforcing pool rules and regulations; performing routine maintenance duties to keep the pool and facility in clean and safe condition; collecting admission fees and preparing daily reconciliation and bank deposit preparation; responding to emergency situations in the pool; performing tests to ensure safe pool water quality; One season of experience working as a Lifeguard in a public recreation setting. Successful applicants must be willing and available to work evenings, holidays, and weekends and to modify work schedules and work overtime as necessary.

Testing and Eligible List: Depending on the number of qualified applications received, the examination may consist of a highly qualified review, application screening, online assessment, written examination, oral examination, performance examination, or any combination to determine which candidates' names will be placed on the eligible list. The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill the current vacancy, and any future vacancies for open, fixed-term, full-time or part-time positions which may occur while the list remains active.

Candidates selected are subject to fingerprinting by the Sheriff's Department and must pass a Department of Justice LiveScan background check prior to appointment. Disaster Service Workers: All County of Marin employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
