Substation Physical Engineer
Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Substation Physical Engineer for our high‑voltage substation design team. The role involves applying NESC, NEC, and other applicable codes and standards, independently producing high‑voltage arrangements, plan and elevation views, grounding analysis, layouts, cable trough and conduit plans, AC and DC calculations for station service and battery sizing, equipment specifications, a bill of materials, and construction documents. The engineer works with internal and external stakeholders to meet project milestones and expectations.

Design all aspects of high‑voltage (4kV‑230kV) and EHV (above 230kV) substation projects, including:

Cable trough/ conduit plans

Specifications for major primary equipment (transformers, breakers, switches, etc.)

Bill of materials

Construction documentation (sequence and RFP)

Bus‑fault stress analysis

Construction

Coordinate with external and internal team members, including transmission line engineers, distribution line engineers, civil engineers, geotechnical engineers, and surveyors

Produce high‑quality work and support continuous improvement

Enjoy fast‑paced, multiple‑project work

Remove impediments to engineering team success

Proficiency assessing mechanical forces and thermal effects of high fault currents on rigid bus

Strong familiarity with NEC and National Electrical Safety Code
