Head of Recruiting & HR

Position is responsible for aligning policies and procedures with the ongoing needs within the
Diocese. Support the Principals, pastors, employees of the Diocese in HR related areas. Ensures that
human resources practices support the Diocese's Catholic mission, preserve its religious identity,
and foster a workplace culture rooted in the teachings and values of the Catholic Church. Provides
guidance that balances sound employment practices with the Diocese's pastoral mission and assists
clergy and lay leaders in advancing the ministry of the Church through faithful stewardship of its
employees.
Recruiting and Hiring Be available to create job descriptions, do the hiring and recruiting processes, provide interviewing support on short notice, create sourcing of applicants, draft offer letters, post on external sites and locations, and provide compensation recommendations.
Ensure recruiting, interviewing, and hiring practices identify candidates who can support and advance the Diocese's Catholic mission consistent with the responsibilities of each position.
Assist pastors, principals, and diocesan leaders in communicating mission expectations and evaluating applicants' ability to support the mission and values of the Catholic Church.
Develop and review job descriptions, job postings, interview questions, offer letters, and employment documents that accurately communicate religious responsibilities and mission
Help identify positions that include religious duties and ensure those duties are consistently reflected throughout the hiring process.
Employee Relations Collaborate with clergy and lay leaders to ensure HR supports ministry and operations.
Collaborate with clergy and lay leaders to ensure employment practices support the
Diocese's mission while fostering a workplace culture consistent with Catholic teaching and
values.
Provide leadership and direction within the Diocese on all aspects of HR policies and
procedures. Support the organization’s goals and priorities; create solutions that are simple,
aligned with church teachings and helpful to internal customers.
Provide guidance that integrates pastoral care, accountability, justice, charity, stewardship, and respect for the dignity of every person into employment decisions.
Assist clergy and lay leaders in applying employment policies in a manner consistent with Catholic teaching and the Diocese's mission.
Support leaders in documenting mission-related expectations and, when appropriate, the religious reasons supporting employment decisions. Provide support, if a Plan of Improvement, is needed. Help create success measures that are followed up on. Support parish/school, on-site, if needed, with training, documentation, discipline or difficult separations from the organization in a lawful, just, compassionate and respectful manner.
Assist supervisors in evaluating employees' fulfillment of mission-related responsibilities, including conduct, professionalism, and support of the Diocese's Catholic identity. Is able to be a gracious guest at a parish location to evaluate HR audit areas: 1-9 compliance, 1099 verification, payroll classifications,(exempt/non-exempt) retirement eligibility/enrollment, 401k compliance/eligibility, and provide training as needed.
Administrative Support Update and communicate current handbook information. Align all policies with United States Conference of Catholic Bishops guidelines and diocesan values. Review, develop, and update employment policies, handbooks, forms, and employment guidance to ensure they reflect applicable law, the teachings of the Catholic Church, United States Conference of Catholic Bishops guidance where applicable, diocesan mission, and religious responsibilities. Assist in developing orientation, training, and employment resources that reinforce Catholic identity and mission expectations. Assist the Finance Office with Benefit Plan support and payroll/status changes. Support the Office of the Protection of Minors and Young People, ensuring policy compliance. Maintain lay employee files, share policies, and update website. Support the Chancery staff as needed.
Compliance & Risk Management Manage federal/state laws while navigating religious exemptions.
Monitor legal developments affecting religious employers and provide guidance that preserves the Diocese's constitutional and statutory religious liberty protections while maintaining compliance with applicable law.
Assist leaders in documenting employment decisions that are rooted in sincerely held religious beliefs and consistent with Catholic teaching, when appropriate.
Support employee benefit programs in a manner consistent with Catholic teaching while helping employees understand available benefits through a compassionate and pastoral approach.
Oversee safe environment programs, training and compliance for child protection and vulnerable adults. Ensure proper documentation, background checks, and certifications.
Consult, answer questions, do research related to compensation recommendations, applicant market trends, benefit expectations, within mission-type organizations. Support employees related to benefits programs, eligibility, etc.
Position Qualifications: College degree preferred, and/or 5-10 years related work experience(HR, Employment related)
Prefer ability to manage/consult multiple sites/parish
Prefer HR Certification (SHRM)
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to supporting the mission, teachings, and values of the Catholic Church through professional conduct, sound judgment, and employment practices.
Ability to integrate Catholic principles into employment practices, leadership guidance, workplace culture, and organizational policies.
Ability to communicate mission expectations and explain Catholic teaching as it relates to employment responsibilities.

Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church who is able to faithfully represent, support, and advance the mission, teachings, and values of the Diocese through both professional responsibilities and personal conduct. Positive communication skills. Ability to travel and provide needed training.
