Maintenance Electrician Weekend Shift

Position Overview
The Electrician performs complex technical work at a journeyman level in the installation, operation, maintenance, modification, service and repair of commercial electrical systems, equipment, fixtures and related electro‑mechanical systems across approximately 1 million square feet covering about 8-10 assigned buildings.

12‑month position (260 days/year), 8 hours per day

Salary
Support Salary Scale Grade S12: $30.11 per hour; starting

Essential Functions

Perform daily preventive maintenance of electrical systems, inspecting, testing, servicing, and repairing equipment.

Document costs, time, materials, and update supervisors via the work‑order system.

Ensure electrical distribution systems are safe, code compliant, and maintain, modify, or repair as needed.

Inspect and test components to locate faults, conduct repairs, or provide estimates. Include load calculations, interpretation of wiring diagrams, and circuit design.

Troubleshoot and repair electric controls, motor control centers, and programmable logic controls.

Oversee and support the professional development of Electrician Apprentices.

Maintain vehicle, tools, and equipment; operate safely according to FCPS regulations.

Attend training, satisfy testing requirements, and attend meetings to plan and execute tasks.

Travel frequently between facilities, obeying FCPS vehicle regulations.

Provide exceptional customer service to staff and visitors.

Work efficiently, showing independence, self‑direction, and reliable attendance.

Obtain and retain necessary certifications and licenses.

Use computerized systems (CMMS, office software, lighting controls, building automation).

Perform additional duties as assigned and maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with OSHA, FCPS standards, and policies.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED equivalent.

3-5 years of related experience.

State of Maryland Journeyperson Electrician license.

Valid driver's license with ability to operate a vehicle per FCPS policy.

Preferred Qualifications

Commercial electrical work experience.

Familiarity with FCPS policies, goals, and programs.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

Requires standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 50 lb, using hands and fingers, pushing/pulling, climbing ladders up to 25 ft, operating vehicles, and working in inclement weather, dust/fume exposure, high noise, and confined spaces.

Work environment includes exposure to hot/cold water, electrical outlets, moving machinery, and high noise levels.
