Job TitleConduct routine tests for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease, and performs related duties following established standards and practices. Analyzes routine test results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits. Establishes, maintains cooperative relationships with patients, physicians, pathologists, staff, and other individuals. Relies on guidelines and education to complete job and works under general supervision.ResponsibilitiesPatient Experience:Demonstrates excellent customer service through his/her attitude and actions, consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission, and Values of the organization.Conduct chemical analyses of body fluids, such as blood or urine, using microscope or automatic analyzer to detect abnormalities or diseases.Assist with training of students and new Team Members.Maintain required records, reports, and statistics as needed.Perform specimen processing and technical functions as assignedFinancial Success:Monitor the use of resources and all lab supplies.Utilize work time appropriately.Readily looks for additional tasks during periods of reduced workload.Operational Excellence:Provides a positive and professional representation of the organization.Complies with organizational and regulatory policies for handling confidential patient information.Performs high-quality professional lab services by answering telephones, prioritizing and directing calls as needed.Performs all routine tests accurately within established turnaround times.Multi-tasks effectively within the scope of the departmental requirements.Quality and Patient Safety:Promotes culture of safety for patients and Team Members through proper identification, reporting, documentation, and prevention.Assists in care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.Adheres to infection-control policies and protocols, storage procedures, and regulations.Understands specimen requirements for each test and evaluates specimen for proper identification and integrity through visual checks and result evaluation.Ability to recognize discrepant or unexpected test results, correlating data and monitoring results for reasonableness. Includes troubleshooting and documentation.Follows protocol for instrument maintenance, running controls and accepting, verifying and recording QC results.Recognizes and refers problems and questions outside of own expertise to appropriate supervisory personnel.Team Member Experience:Interacts with coworkers in a way that promotes a harmonious and cooperative work environment.Interacts with clients, patients, physicians and other hospital personnel to maintain good customer relations and quality health care.Effectively communicates pertinent information to ensure continuity of care.Assists other areas when own workload allows or when a customer service need arises.Acts as a mentor in the training of students and new employees while fostering interest and knowledge.QualificationsGraduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technical program or Associates Degree.Must be able to successfully pass ASCP Certification test within 6 months of hire or equivalent certification.Failure to pass will result in termination of employment.High level of attention to detail Critical thinking skills Strong communication and organizational skills Able to work independently and within a team environment
