Position: Construction Engineer III

Location: Rockford, IL

About the Role

The Construction Engineer III will assist with projects across IDOT District 2, primarily in Ogle, Winnebago, or Boone counties in Illinois. This role supports the construction group on roadways, bridges, underground installations, and works with design staff and clients as needed.

Daily Responsibilities

Conduct on‑site observations, repairs, and tests as needed.

Coordinate construction activities with clients, inspectors, contractors, and public agencies.

Protect owner interests against defects and deficiencies in work.

Act as liaison with contractors.

Maintain job site records of daily reports, meeting minutes, approved drawings, and pay requests.

Observe, measure, and document construction activities.

Maintain a daily log of construction activities.

Monitor progress schedules and shop drawing logs.

Review pay requests and verify completed work.

Provide detailed designs as required by workload.

Perform general civil engineering and client service tasks.

Other responsibilities as assigned.

Education Requirements

B.S. degree in Civil or Construction Engineering from an accredited program (emphasis in construction engineering preferred).

Must‑Haves

Professional Engineering License required.

5+ years of proven progressive experience in construction engineering.

Experience working on IDOT or Illinois Tollway projects.

Computer skills and mastery of proprietary software (IDOT CMMS program, ISTHA eBuilder, etc.).

Ability to travel throughout IDOT District 2 area.

Compensation

Pay range: $90,000 - $115,000, based on individual qualification and experience.
