Stormwater Maintenance WorkerA Stormwater Maintenance Worker performs general manual work and semi-skilled labor to maintain the City's stormwater system. This position is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, and upkeep of City stormwater drainage system. It also includes performing duties such as mowing, trimming, debris removal, working with other departments on various needs, and general construction. The position ensures that the City's stormwater system functions properly.This position is designated as "essential personnel" and may serve as a member of the Emergency Management Team, required to report for duty during emergencies, natural disasters, or other critical events.Essential FunctionsGeneral Maintenance:Operate specialized vehicles and equipment including tractors, skid steers, loaders, dump trucks, backhoes, Gradall excavator, vac trucks, and track hoe for maintenance tasksUse hand and power tools to clear vegetation and debrisSupports pre-storm preparation and post storm cleanup efforts, including sandbagging and debris removalRespond to work orders, citizen concerns, and emergency maintenance requestsAssist other departments or crews as neededMaintains equipment and toolsConduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspectionsRegular in-person attendance during City and department business hours, since face-to-face interaction and coordination of work with other employees, outside colleagues, residents, or vendors, and all immediate access to documents or other information located in the workplace is requiredStormwater Maintenance:Performs general inspection, maintenance, and repair of the City's stormwater system, including pipes, drainage structures, ditches, swales, underdrains, ponds, and creeks.Assists with the installation, repair, and maintenance of stormwater infrastructure and drainage improvements.Remove debris, sediment, and blockages to ensure proper water flow and prevent floodingOperate and maintain light to heavy equipment such as vacuum trucks, backhoes, mini-excavators, and dump trucksUse hand and power tools for digging, cutting, and clearing vegetation or debrisConduct visual inspections of stormwater systems and report issues such as erosion, illicit discharges, or structural damage(These essential and additional job functions are not to be construed as a complete statement of all duties performed. Employees will be required to perform other job-related marginal duties as required.)Minimum QualificationsKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of grounds maintenance and general maintenance tasks and proceduresKnowledge of methods and procedures related to the installation, maintenance and repair of stormwater infrastructureKnowledge of and skill in the use of common hand tools and mechanical equipmentKnowledge of safety rules and regulationsSkilled in the operation and maintenance of equipment and tools related to the positionAbility to operate light and heavy equipment safely and effectivelyAbility to communicate effectively, both verbally and writtenAbility to perform heavy manual labor under adverse weather conditionsAbility to follow written and oral instructionsAbility to deal courteously and effectively with the public and co-workersAbility to access, input and retrieve information from a computerMinimum Education and Experience:High School Diploma or equivalentTwo (2) years of related manual labor and/or groundskeeping experience is preferredExperience with Stormwater is preferredExperience using heavy equipment is preferredSupplemental InformationLicenses, Certifications, or Registrations:Must possess a valid Florida's driver's license.Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred, or the ability to obtain a CDL within six (6) months is required.Working Hours and Environment:May require work outside of normal business hours in emergency and maintenance circumstances.Works outside up to 100% of the time in various weather and environmental conditions. An additional of up to 2.5% will be contributed if the employee elects to contribute to their individual 457. However, employee contribution is not required.
