Optician - Full time - Optician

Job Description
Licensed Opticians are responsible for selling and dispensing eyewear and related accessories to patients. They ensure patients are fitted with the right-size frames that suit their needs and lifestyle, and dispense lenses with correct prescriptions and measurements. As integral members of the team, licensed opticians use their technical and customer‑service skills to ensure patient satisfaction and repeat business.

Responsibilities

Provide an extraordinary experience to each patient, explaining customised product and service recommendations.

Custom‑fit glasses and accurately place prescriptions in lenses.

Develop own clientele through outstanding service and referral acquisition.

Assist co‑workers with complex product and prescription needs.

Stay current on company products, industry procedures, manufacturer rebates, and lens/frame options.

Handle patient calls, update status of orders, and resolve issues, escalating to Store Manager when necessary.

Retrieve patient charts and electronic health records.

Help patients select frames, lens types and treatments (tints, coatings) based on individual needs and facial measurements.

Educate patients on proper eyeglass and contact lens care.

Take eye and face measurements to ensure proper fit.

Interpret prescriptions written by optometrists and ophthalmologists.

Create work orders for lab technicians with detailed lens specifications.

Follow up on pending orders, verify timings, and notify patients of status or delays.

Dispense glasses by inspecting products, checking fit, adjusting as needed, and gathering feedback.

Perform eyewear adjustments and repairs using tools such as pupilometers, PD sticks, lensometers, pliers, wrenches, and frame warmers.

Communicate regularly with technicians, store managers, front desk associates, and optometrists to share patient information or order status.

Inspect final products to ensure flaw‑free quality, clean, and polish lenses with cloths and solvents.

Maintain cleanliness and visual appeal of frame boards, displays, mirrors, work benches, office area, bathroom, and breakroom.

Restock retail boards with new merchandise.

Diagnose product issues and provide thorough, accurate answers to patient inquiries about insurance, warranty, pricing, upgrades, and promotions.

Collaborate with technicians, front desk staff, managers, and the optometrist.

Sell miscellaneous products such as cleaners, contact lens supplies, sunglasses, and safety glasses.

Requirements & Qualifications

High School Diploma.

State licensure.

Optical dispensing experience.

At least one year of experience as an optician (strongly preferred).

Experience with HIPAA requirements (preferred).

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent customer service skills, pleasant demeanor, sales experience preferred.

Manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination.

Dependability and punctuality.

Ability to lift up to 30 lbs, bend, kneel, and stand up to 8 hours a day.
