Security Guards provide a customer service-focused approach to safety and security as members of the campus community. Helping others is the Security guard's contribution to the College. Additionally, Security Guards provide a visible presence, active protection, and security to the College, buildings, grounds, employees, students, and visitors. Guards patrol campus and maintain order through the application and enforcement of applicable laws, rules, orders, and ordinances where applicable. Security Guards assist local first responder agencies in their performance of routine and emergency operations on campus. Campus Security Officers document actions and observations in logs, reports, and other methods of communication.
This is a part-time, hourly position, working a variety of shifts, covering shifts at various times across 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Temporary positions may only work 1050 hours or 12 consecutive months from the date of hire, whichever comes first (WAC 357-04-045) The exact schedule will be worked out with the candidate selected for hire.

Enforces security rules and policies and rules of behavior; logs incidents in records and/or into a computer;
Patrols and inspects buildings and grounds to detect and prevent fire, theft, illegal entry, and property damage; examines gates, doors, and windows to ensure security;
reports illegal entry to law enforcement and campus security; receives complaints, obtains statements, and conducts preliminary investigations; intervenes in personal and property risk incidents to diffuse situations;
opens buildings close and locks at the end of business or shift;
Completes daily shift logs and security reports, inspection reports, and other documents as needed; Answers the security phone line and responds to calls for service;

Respond to all fire, intrusion, and system monitoring alarms;
Provides assistance to campus visitors and guests;
Walk staff or students to parking lots, classrooms, or other campus facilities upon request;
Safely operate Security vehicles.
High school graduation or GED and one year of experience in areas of work such as: security guard, correctional officer, store investigations, or police officer, police reserve officer, military police, or other law enforcement work;
A certificate of completion in a basic law enforcement training program approved by the Washington Criminal Justice Training Commission; or, a certificate of completion in a police or reserve police academy or military training program;

High school graduation or GED and experience as a person responsible for emergency response and supervision of others in a workplace.

Rate of pay is $20.80 per hour.
