What We're Looking For:Nexamp is looking to hire a Senior Electrical Engineer to join its Clean Energy Deployment team. You will be responsible for review of solar & storage projects design by providing technical expertise in the interconnection, construction, and assisting in the commissioning of distributed energy resources (DERs).We are accepting candidates across our hub offices of Chicago, Boston, DC, and NY. We are supporting hybrid work. You will report to the Director, Electrical Engineering.What You'll Do:Specify and review equipment shop drawings for switchgear, transformers, reclosers and other major electrical equipment.Perform advanced electrical modeling in ETAP and AmpCalc to coordinate system protection, determine fault-duty ratings, and calculate arc-flash hazards.Manage scope of work for 3rd party electrical engineers including but not limited to studies; protection coordination, power flow, Arc Flash, Step/touch Grounding Analysis, PSCAD and PSSE Modeling, Substation Design.Support the Grid Integration and Project Engineering team.Review, analyze, and interpret utility pre-screen reports, System Impact Studies, Interconnection Service Agreements, and utility negotiationsWitness test procedure review, code interpretation, protective settings developmentImplementation of non-wires alternatives, selective curtailment, and other grid-edge technologiesTrain and mentor junior engineering personnelComplete Project design reviews; review of single line diagrams, three-line diagrams, and site layout designs for compliance with code, best practices, and utility requirementsRespond to RFIs on active construction projects as requiredProvide technical support to Nexamp commissioning:Review medium-voltage equipment tests and factory testsDevelop, with assistance, mitigation plans for non-performance to establish safe operationReview RDB files and relay test reportsCertify mechanical completion on construction complete projectsProvide technical support to Nexamp development, EPC, and O&M departments for the entire life cycle of a project including development, permitting, construction, and asset management phasesManage new product research and implementation initiativesParticipate in process improvement activities and the generation and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Best PracticesMaintain a high level of professionalism and ethical conductWhat You'll Bring:6+ years of electrical engineering experience, including 2+ years of PV experienceBachelor's Degree in electrical engineeringEIT certification required, PE preferredUtility scale design and HV substation experience or effective grounding experience preferred.AutoCAD software proficiencyETAP, SKM, or AmpCalc modeling experienceFamiliarity with AcSELerator and RDB generationStrong knowledge of industry standard design codes such as National Electric Code, International Building Code, International Fire Code and other industry standardsStrong knowledge of electrical principles, including medium voltage distribution, protection system coordination and relaying principlesKnowledge of construction means and methodsValid Driver's License or ability to obtain sameDemonstrates strong command of electrical engineering fundamentals, applicable codes, utility and equipment requirements, and uses sound judgment to lead complex design, analysis, troubleshooting, and commissioning efforts.Produces and reviews high-quality work product with a high degree of accuracy and consistency, ensuring calculations, drawings, specifications, and documentation support quality, constructability, and code compliance.Manages multiple priorities independently, follows through on commitments, consistently meets deadlines, and proactively identifies risks, dependencies, and support needs that could affect project outcomes.Exercises strong engineering judgment on complex or unfamiliar issues, knows when to escalate or engage other subject matter experts, and adapts effectively to evolving project needs, priorities, and processes while supporting the development of others.Ability to ask appropriate questions, analyze data, identify the root causes of problems, and present creative solutions.Expertise in building strong internal and external relationships with customers and stakeholders, instilling trust and loyalty across the industry.At Nexamp, our mission is to build the future of energy so it is clean, simple, and accessible for all. Actual base salary may vary based upon, but is not limited to, skills and qualifications, internal equity, performance, and geographic location.
