Full-Time Facilitator

POSITION TITLE: Para II - Job Coach

STATUS: Classified - Non-Exempt

STARTING SALARY: $18.50 hourly

POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for assisting in the supervision, care and instruction of students with special needs in the school and/or community environment; assisting students in the practice of employability skills at different job sites; assisting in implementing plans for instruction; monitoring student behavior; providing information to appropriate school personnel; and performing classroom clerical tasks.

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Adapt and provide accommodations for classroom activities; assignments and/or materials under the direction of the teacher to provide special education students opportunities to actively participate.

Aid students in and out of classroom (e.g., packing backpacks, taking notes, building relationships, field trips, social skills, etc.) to support students’ needs and social growth.

Assist students with personal care needs due to medical condition and/or physical limitations (e.g., diaper changing, toilet training, lifting students and/or equipment, feeding assistance, etc.) to enable students to function in school environments.

Attend meetings and in-service presentations (e.g., CPR, education strategies, disability education, etc.) to acquire and share information related to job functions to meet state requirements.

Collaborate with staff to provide necessary support and information related to a student’s progress as established in their Individual Education Program under certified staff direction.

Implement behavioral plans for students as designed by the IEP team to assist special education students in meeting their needs and providing a consistent environment under certified staff oversight.

Assist students with challenging and/or aggressive behaviors; implement education and behavioral programming under classroom certified staff supervision to develop new skills for students.

Instruct students in a variety of activities in individual and group settings (e.g., academic subjects, social skills, daily living skills, etc.) to meet Individual Educational Program goals under certified staff direction.

Maintain instructional materials and data sheets to ensure availability of materials and provide reliable information on student progress under certified staff direction.

Monitor students during assigned periods within a variety of school and community environments (e.g., rest rooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, fire drills, assemblies, cafeteria, parking lots, etc.) to provide a safe and positive environment conducive to learning. Middle school paraeducators may be required to assist students in the swimming pool.

Education and Experience Requirements:

High School diploma or GED.

If the building is classified as Title I, 48 hours of college credit or the ability to pass the Title I assessment test is required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Skills: perform multiple tasks, upgrade skills as needed; adhere to safety practices; operate standard office equipment and software; prepare and maintain accurate records; use district- approved crisis intervention techniques.

Knowledge: perform basic math; read and follow instructions; understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions; instructional procedures and practices; age-appropriate student activities; safety practices and procedures; conflict resolution; stages of child development/behavior; safe handling of blood-borne pathogens; crisis de-escalation techniques.

Abilities: schedule activities, collect data, use basic job-related equipment; work flexibly with others; work with data using defined and similar processes; operate equipment with standardized methods; work with a diversity of individuals; problem-solve to identify issues and create action plans; communicate with diverse groups; maintain confidentiality; set priorities; work as part of a team; handle constant interruptions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions frequently require the following physical demands: running, walking, sitting, standing, lifting 80 lbs floor to waist, carrying up to 55 lbs, pushing and/or pulling; climbing and balancing, reaching forward and overhead, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity.
