MRI Technologist

Technologist conducts routine tests used in diagnosis and treatment of disease. Primary position responsibilities include performing MRI procedures at a tech level in accordance with protocols, maintaining proper quality of control procedures, and having knowledge of regulatory requirements relating to MRI exams and equipment. The technologist must establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public. They should have knowledge of concepts, standards, procedures, and equipment, and be able to work extended hours when necessary and provide mandatory call coverage on a rotating basis. The technologist must perform all MRI safety measures as directed by ACR, maintain a safe and appropriate work environment, and knowledge of basic patient care and activities may be necessary during exam. They should attend required meetings and participate in committees as requested, maintain confidentiality of sensitive information, work as a team member within the imaging department and all departments, document work processes as required, and perform other duties as assigned.

Work contact group (internal/external) includes physicians, hospital staff, patients, and families. Reporting relationships include reporting to the director.

Qualifications: Minimum education required is a high school diploma or equivalent and completion of an accredited radiology program. Required license, registry, or certification includes national registration with the American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT) with MRI certification or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) and current CPR/BLS certification for Health Care Providers. Knowledge, skills, and abilities required include the ability to properly position patients to provide quality imaging, ability to work independently, complete understanding of MRI applications, ability to operate equipment, strong organizational and interpersonal skills including the ability to manage interactions with difficult people, knowledge of current medical terminology, knowledge of imaging techniques to perform routine tests, knowledge of imaging equipment and testing to perform quality control checks and troubleshooting of instrumentation, and ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively.
