BENEFIT INFORMATION

Eligibility for SEBB medical, dental, vision, life insurance, AD&D, and LTD if anticipated to reach 630 hours in the school year. Eligibility for retirement based on 3.50 hrs/day or more for 5 or more consecutive months. Optional tax-sheltered annuities: Omni 403(b) and Deferred Compensation Plan. Personal leave, vacation leave (260-day employees only), and sick leave prorated based on FTE.

Selection for interview is based on evaluation of complete application file. Employment offer is based on employee evaluations, discipline history and attendance records, training and experience, references, and interview results. Hourly rate placement contingent upon verification of related WA public school experience.

This position is included in the classified staff non-supervisory bargaining unit. Union shop requirements and the Collective Bargaining Agreement apply to this position.

Employment contingent upon completion and verification of form information and background check with fee to be paid by applicant.

Pay for contracted classified employees is distributed once/month on the last business day of the month. Pay for employees who work less than full year is spread through August. Questions concerning pay processes may be directed to the Personnel Office.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Supervisor of Transportation

Work Year: 260 Days/year, 8 hours/day

POSITION SUMMARY:

Assist in the designation of school bus routes for the district. Schedules, dispatches, and directs bus drivers in the Transportation Department to assure effective and efficient transportation of children. Manages driver assignments for “to” and “from” school, and extra trips. Performs skilled, confidential support to the Supervisor of Transportation. This

position is a key communication person for the transportation department.

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess a High School diploma or equivalent.

Bilingual skills are desirable.

Completion of the CWU, OSPI, WAPT Public Transportation Manager Training Program (or willingness to obtain), or equivalent experience that provides the same or similar knowledge preferred.

Experience in general public transportation operations, preferably in a school district setting.

Current Washington State CDL Class B with school bus and passenger endorsement.

Good knowledge of streets and roads within the service area.

Good telephone skills, responding quickly to both positive and negative problems and questions regarding bussing.

Knowledge of timekeeping and related payroll support skills.

Excellent knowledge and demonstrated use of MS Office and Google Suite; utilizes spreadsheets, word processing, calendar and email.

Knowledge and/or experience with routing software preferred.

Ability to multi-task and prioritize daily workload.

Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions, to understand, apply and interpret rules, regulations, procedures and policies.

Ability to respond to the changing needs of the workplace

Ability to perform assigned duties professionally and confidentially in a mature, calm, courteous, efficient and fair manner under frequent interruptions and to exercise careful judgment, diplomacy and tact in the performance of duties and assignments.

Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision, using personal initiative to cooperate in performing related duties necessary to the full accomplishment of the District’s objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Coordinate and/or schedule daily route assignments to District bus drivers; review regular routes and special trip requests, schedule driver and vehicle availability and dispatch drivers accordingly. Provide coverage of all routes, including athletic and field trips, arranging for substitute drivers as necessary.

Respond to inquiries relating to bus stops, bus routes, bus drivers, etc. Provide information as appropriate based on district and department policy and procedure, referring to the supervisor when necessary.

Communicate with drivers daily in person and by radio on important and routine operational items such as student changes, road conditions, safety concerns, and provide driver or maintenance forms as needed.

Communicate and support drivers through operation of two-way radio, dispatch of backup busses as necessary, and assistance in the location of lost children.

Develop and prepare regular and special bus routes for the start of the school year in an effective and efficient way. Ensure all buildings have bus information for their students at the beginning of and throughout the school year.

Prepare and process departmental reports and paperwork including driver time.

Answer phones and respond to parents, teachers, building secretaries, principals, or other callers on problems and/or needs. Notify building officials of route changes, bus changes, and late arrivals and departures.

Act as a substitute driver when necessary

Perform other related duties as may be requested.

Language Skills:

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Personal computer and spreadsheet skills. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in a specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community.

Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication.

Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Ability to read and understand mapping, addresses, and directions.
