Essential Functions Collaborates with interdisciplinary team in nutritional aspects of patient care by sharing specialized knowledge with others on the medical team, participating appropriately in patient rounds and conferences, recording in medical records, and assessing the nutritional status of patients, instructing patients, recording diet histories, interpreting and integrating therapeutic principles.

Monitors and documents patient progress and consults with physicians as needed.

Makes appropriate notation of food and drug interactions in the patient medical record.

Educates and provides guidance to staff, patients, and families regarding diet and food plans.

Administers and advises dietary operations to ensure menus comply with prescribed nutritional plans.

Maintains current diet manual for therapeutic diets approved jointly by the dietitian and medical staff.

May be required to work during inclement weather and other staffing emergencies.

Provides an environment conducive to safety for patients, visitors, and staff.

Assesses risks for safety and implements appropriate precautions.

Complies with approved safety and infection‑prevention standards.

Maintains regular attendance in keeping with assigned work schedule.

Completes required trainings, as assigned.

Performs other duties as assigned to support overall effectiveness of the organization.

Minimum Education & Experience Two years of directly related experience in a hospital setting preferred.

Bachelor’s degree in dietetics, nutritional sciences, clinical nutrition, public health nutrition, or a related field required.

Required Licenses, Certifications, and Documentation Registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration required.

Must be licensed as a Registered Dietitian per state requirements.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of current patient diets, food and nutrition research, and safe food‑handling requirements.

Understanding of treatment costs and financial support as they relate to quality and efficiency.

General computer skills, including data entry, word processing, email, and records management.

Critical thinking, effective organizational and time‑management, and written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and complete complex tasks.

Ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection‑prevention standards.

Ability to work independently while maintaining confidentiality.

Ability to collaborate professionally with others at all levels of the organization.

Physical Requirements Significant standing, walking, bending, squatting, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling for prolonged periods.

Lifting or exerting up to 50 lbs.

Possible exposure to bodily fluids.

Visual acuity and hearing required for patient assessment and documentation.

Manual dexterity to operate equipment and computer keyboard.

Close vision and ability to adjust focus.
