CNC Lathe Machinist

This role focuses on setting up, operating, and programming a Mazak QUICK TURN 350 MSY lathe with live tooling and multi-spindle capability. You will work hands-on across both CNC and manual equipment, machining a variety of materials while continuously improving processes and optimizing machining performance using a scientific, data-driven approach.

Set up, operate, and conversationally program (Mazatrol) a Mazak QUICK TURN 350 MSY lathe.

Utilize live tooling and multi-spindle functions to machine complex parts efficiently and accurately.

Perform machining on mild steel, stainless steel, and exotic materials including Inconel, copper, and nickel alloys.

Use CNC equipment to repair welded components with imperfections, making fast adjustments and optimizing cycles using Mazatrol.

Maintain tight tolerances, typically around 0.002" (2 thou), to meet quality and specification requirements.

Operate manual lathes as needed to support production and repair work.

Assist with general shop operations, including saw operation and utility work, to support overall workflow.

Troubleshoot setups, tooling issues, and part quality problems independently and efficiently.

Actively contribute to process improvement, tooling selection, and machining strategies using a scientific, data-driven mindset.

Collaborate with the CNC team to share best practices and continuously improve machining processes.

Proven experience as a CNC Lathe Machinist.

Hands-on experience with Mazatrol conversational programming.

Experience machining a range of materials, including exotic alloys such as Inconel, copper, and nickel alloys.

Ability to set up, operate, and adjust CNC lathes, including changeovers and machine setup.

Strong ability to troubleshoot setups, tooling issues, and part quality concerns independently.

Comfort working in a flexible, utility-style role within the shop, supporting various tasks as needed.

Experience with multi-spindle and live-tooling lathes.

Strong mechanical aptitude and a practical problem-solving mindset.

Experience with CNC mills and general CNC machining operations.

Comfort using a scientific, data-driven approach to evaluate and improve machining processes.

Willingness to assist with general shop tasks such as saw operation and utility work.

You will have access to a $700 Mazatrol training class at no cost, allowing you to deepen your programming and advanced machining skills on high-end equipment. The environment supports flexible scheduling, giving you the option to start your day an hour earlier or later as long as the work is completed. You will work in a large, semi temperature-controlled shop alongside a CNC team of around ten people. The facility is equipped with advanced CNC lathes, including a Mazak QUICK TURN 300 MSY with live tooling and multi-spindle capability, as well as manual lathes, manual mills, and saws. The culture emphasizes a scientific, data-driven approach to machining, encouraging open feedback and collaborative problem solving. The work environment supports a flexible schedule, allowing some variation in start times while maintaining responsibility for completing assigned work.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Paul, MN.
