Key Responsibilities of the Pharmacist

Accept and dispense prescription medications

Monitor patient medication compliance and over-usage patterns

Ensure that the supply of medicines is within the law

Ensure that the medicines prescribed to patients are suitable

Accurately maintain confidential records of all patients

Advise patients about medicines, including how to take them and potential reactions

Provide consultation on prescription and non-prescription medications

Offer services such as smoking cessation, blood pressure measurement, and cholesterol management

Educate patients on proper handling of medical devices

Compound medications for external or internal use

Prepare sterile solutions

Supervise pharmacy staff

Maintain appropriate inventory on pharmaceutical and medical supplies

Identify drug-related problems and communicate with physicians and other healthcare practitioners

Work with physicians, nurses, and other pharmacists

Requirements of the Pharmacist

Doctor of Pharmacy degree required

Licensed by the state pharmacy board
