Radiation Therapist
This position administers ionizing irradiation to patients according to prescriptions and instructions from department physicians. The role involves delivering the prescribed course of radiation therapy by checking prescriptions, diagnosis charts, and patient identification. The therapist will explain procedures to patients, including means of communication during treatment and basic treatment procedures. The therapist prepares the room and equipment for patients according to prescriptions or simulations regarding immobilization devices, transferring patients to treatment couches and paying attention to their special needs. Patients are observed for unusual reactions and signs of developing complications during treatment, with reports made to supervisors and department physicians. The therapist regularly reviews patient charts to eliminate errors and to ensure proper recording of blood counts and special reports. Clinical supervision and evaluation of students' practical ability to perform procedures are part of the role. The therapist performs other job-related duties as assigned.
