This is a Temporary, Seasonal non-exempt position, not to exceed 960 hours annually. This position assists the Association's Maintenance II position in a variety of manual labor and maintenance activities of the Association's property, building and grounds during the annual Humboldt County Fair.
About Humboldt County Fair Association
Since 1896 the Humboldt County Fair Association (HCFA) has held the annual Humboldt County Fair. The Association was formally established in December 26, 1924 as a California non-profit public benefit corporation.HCFA is governed by an eleven (11) member Board of Directors, the policy and financial policy making body for the Association, and they designate a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) responsible for implementing their direction and managing the Association's employees. The Association entered into an agreement with the County of Humboldt to manage the Humboldt County Fair and Event Center. The Association acts as the County's agent to operate and manage the Center. The Fairgrounds are located in the town of Ferndale and includes approximately 65-acres that houses exhibit buildings, livestock barns, a historic grandstand, a 1/2 mile dirt horse racing track, midway and carnival lots. Included on the property is a recreational vehicle park with 60 site hooks and dry campground facilities.

SEASONAL LABORER
This is a Temporary, Seasonal non-exempt position, not to exceed 960 hours annually. This position assists the Association's Maintenance II position in a variety of manual labor and maintenance activities of the Association's property, building and grounds during the annual Humboldt County Fair.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Seasonal Laborer reports to the Regular Maintenance II position, who receives direction from the General Manager. No direct reports.EXAMPLES OF TYPICAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Illustrative Only)
Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.
- Setups and teardown events including, but not limited to, setting tables, chairs, furniture, stage pieces, livestock pens, horse jumps, fence lines, and crowd control barriers.
- Collects and sorts trash, recyclables, construction, and landscape debris using proper material disposal and recycling procedures.
- Performs manual labor such a shoveling and removal of manure, bed shavings and related activities.
- Cleans and maintains horse stables and livestock barns using hand tools, wheel barrels, and other equipment.
- Helps with office and room setups by moving furniture and stacking materials or supplies.
- Assists with basic landscaping duties such as mowing, watering, raking, and weed control.
- Practices good physical work methods, utilizes good work habits, and meets established production standards.
- Operates a variety of equipment and tools for cleanup, maintenance, and event tasks.
- Uses standard methods, practices, supplies, tools, and equipment to complete tasks.
- Wears proper personal protective equipment (e.g., gloves, googles) and works in a safe work environment at all times.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested when needed.
KEY SKILLS & COMPETENCIES.
• Techniques for providing a high level of customer service by effectively dealing with the public, vendors, contractors, and Association staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Exerts physical effort in doing assigned duties.
- Follows oral and written instructions.
- Excellent customer service and ability to work cooperatively with team members and others.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors.
- Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risk that require following basic safety precautions.
- Expose to dust, dirt, fumes, chemicals, and unpleasant odors.
- Stands, walks, and/or moves for sustained periods.
- Moves objects up to 75 pounds.
- Works a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
