Shifts 6:00pm-6:30am

Responsibilities
Set up, operate, and administer all types of respiratory care equipment and procedures in both general floor and critical care areas.

Evaluate therapeutic objectives and outcomes and transcribe verbal orders from physicians in the medical record.

Perform arterial puncture, blood gas analysis, co‑oximetry, electrocardiograms, electrolytes, and other basic pulmonary function testing.

Set up, operate, and monitor mechanical ventilators as ordered, adjusting as necessary, ensuring patency, stability, and appropriate humidification.

Assist with transportation of mechanically ventilated patients to other patient care areas.

Provide routine respiratory care treatments and oxygen administration in adult, pediatric, and neonatal areas, including aerosol therapy, nebulized medications, metered dose inhalers, flutter therapy, PEP therapy, incentive spirometry, nasotracheal and artificial airway suctioning, breathing exercises, CPAP/BiPAP therapy and support, sputum induction, and oxygen analysis.

Describe and instruct therapies or procedures to patients and families clearly and professionally.

Prioritize and adjust daily assignments to deliver highest level of patient care efficiently.

Perform arterial punctures and complete blood tests, including arterial blood gas analysis, co‑oximetry, electrolytes, and calculation of diagnostic relationships.

Perform quality control and proficiency testing on analyzers, document results, and report critical values promptly.

Gather materials and equipment for therapy, transport to bedside, check patient orders and patient identification band.

Mix and dispense pharmacological solutions and drugs as prescribed.

Document all mechanical ventilator parameters, respiratory treatments, tests, and patient responses in electronic or paper medical record in a timely manner.

Review prescriptions prepared by physicians, assess neonatal, pediatric, and adult patients, and determine appropriate level of respiratory care.

Assist physicians in bedside procedures and take verbal orders.

Perform bag and mask ventilation, maintain adequate airway, assist in life‑threatening events, attend resuscitations and traumas.

Perform basic pulmonary function testing including vital capacity, forced inspiratory/expiratory flows, flow‑volume loops, and peak flow maneuvers.

Collect soiled equipment from patient areas, transport to CV Respiratory Therapy department, clean, disinfect, sterilize, and package equipment.

Troubleshoot equipment, recognize need for repair or maintenance, and resolve issues.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Education
Graduate of a 2 year AMA‑approved Respiratory Care program.

Required: Graduate of a 4 year Bachelor level or AMA‑approved Respiratory Care program.

Experience

10 months experience as a Respiratory Therapist (Preferred).

6 months experience for Network float position (Required).

1 year clinical experience (Required).

Licenses and Certifications

Respiratory RCP - Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner RCP (Required).

Respiratory RRT - Registered Respiratory Therapist RRT (Required).

BCLS - Basic Life Support BLS Certification (Required).

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (Preferred).

Credential from National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) (Preferred).

Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) campus‑specific (Preferred).
