Renal Dietitian

The Dietitian is responsible for directing and implementing the nutritional aspects of the patient care. The Dietitian plans, directs and coordinates the nutritional care services of the dialysis unit and ensures compliance with Federal, State and local regulatory agencies with reference to the nutritional care aspects of patient care. The Dietitian serves as a member of the Dialysis Patient Care Management team.

Responsible to: Medical Director, Nurse Manager and or Clinical Administrator

Assesses the nutritional and bone mineral status of patients within 30 days (or 13 in-center treatments) of admission to the clinic; Develops and implements the nutritional and bone mineral treatment plans of each patient's individualized comprehensive plan of care, including measurable and expected outcomes with a timeframe for achieving the outcomes.

Participates in Patient Care Conferences with the interdisciplinary team to develop or review the comprehensive plan of care for each patient.

Reviews nutrition-related lab results (i.e. providing additional education or recommendations to improve out-of-target results.

Provides in-services to clinic staff regarding renal nutrition and bone mineral management.

Registered Dietitian with the Commisison on Dietetic Registration

Have a minimum of 1 year professional work experience in clinical nutrition as a Registered Dietitian

Ability to work constructively in cooperation with the interdisciplinary team and all clinic staff
