Appellate Transcriptionist (S)

The North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts seeks a qualified Appellate Transcriptionist to accurately transcribe and punctuate the spoken word to create a verbatim record for court proceedings, hearings, and depositions for the appeals process. This position requires an understanding of the Court's legal system including relevant ethics, professional standards and procedures. Produce an accurate legal transcript from an audio recording device according to specific court requirements.

Provide administrative support as assigned by court reporting manager.

Follow proper courtroom confidentiality and etiquette, including impartiality to parties, exhibiting professional demeanor and appearance, and comply with policies related to court interactions or proceedings.

Knowledge of: fundamentals of court proceedings, documents and rules related to capturing a verbatim court record; English, grammar, punctuation, and spelling; court rules, regulations, procedures, and operations; legal and various specialized terminology; typing speed and accuracy listening from audio recordings.

High school diploma plus three years of professional transcription experience or an associate's degree plus one year of transcription experience or American Association of Electronic Reporters and Transcribers (AAERT) Certification plus one year of professional transcription experience.
