Paramedic Emergency Department - PRN - Night

Summary

Provide basic and advanced life support care to patients in prehospital and emergency department settings. Supervises emergency personnel at the scene. Serves as Incident Commander or Medical Officer during mass casualty situations.

Responsibilities

Maintain less than 2 minutes activation time when ambulance is available.

Evaluate scene safety, proceed appropriately.

Always follow universal precautions.

Bring required equipment to patient side per policy.

Transport patient with all equipment on ambulance.

Perform thorough history and physical exam as appropriate.

Develop accurate diagnosis.

Create treatment plan per guidelines and medical direction; implement, explain, monitor and document results.

Provide care in the Department in consultation with Emergency Physician and Charge Nurse.

Medical education:

Attend required CME/PCE and maintain CME hours.

Maintain Parametric License, CPR, ACLS, and PALS certifications.

Demonstrate desire to increase knowledge by following patient progress with physicians.

Vehicle operation:

No motor vehicle accidents where employee was at fault.

Know major roadways in Norwalk.

Meet driving program standards per P&P.

Operate vehicles safely, courteous manner per P&P; provide comfortable ride; park safely.

Equipment and supplies:

Immediately on duty check vehicles, equipment, and supplies; complete required documentation.

Restock, clean, repair deficiencies; notify EMS management of problems.

Maintain vehicle and equipment clean and ready.

Stow equipment per policy.

Patient care documentation:

Accurately complete all patient care records per P&P.

Complete other required documentation per P&P.

Meet medical documentation requirements for charting.

Complete all documentation in a timely fashion.

Professionalism:

Promote positive image of Norwalk Hospital EMS in community.

Provide educational assistance to other healthcare providers.

Resolve conflicts; demonstrate teamwork.

Serve as preceptor for paramedic and EMT students.

Other duties as assigned.

Fulfilling all compliance responsibilities related to the position.

Qualifications

High School graduate.

Minimum two years of experience.

CT Licensed Paramedic.

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

Valid Driver’s License.

Preferred: Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Science.

Preferred certifications: AHA BLS, PHTLS/ITLS, TECC/TCCC, NRP.

Working Conditions
