Managing Counsel - Remote work

The Counsel provides a full range of legal advice and services. The Counsel work assignments involve moderately complex to complex issues where the analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.

The Counsel is an attorney who manages investigations and litigation on behalf of the company. The Counsel will manage a portfolio of both internal investigations and government investigations and will work to proactively identify opportunities to mitigate risk. The Counsel will also manage complex litigation matters and will collaborate with internal clients and outside counsel on all aspects of litigation and case strategy. The Counsel will exercise independent judgment and decision making on investigation and litigation issues and related tasks and take full ownership of legal matters with modest to minimal supervision. In this position, you must have the ability to perform sophisticated legal analysis and clearly communicate with business partners and other stakeholders.

Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school;

At least 5 years of experience managing investigations or complex litigation;

Strong skills in communicating complex legal issues to various stakeholders;

Ability to work independently under general supervision and in team settings

Investigations or litigation experience in the managed care space

Understanding of Medicare laws and regulations and federal health care fraud laws and statutes (False Claims Act, Anti-Kickback Statute, etc.)

Location: preference for candidates located in Louisville, KY or Chicago, IL but remote/work at home location acceptable for qualified candidates.

Workstyle: hybrid or fully remote

Travel: some travel may be required

Work at Home Requirements: To ensure Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees’ ability to work effectively, the self-provided internet service of Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees must meet the following criteria: wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested. Travel: While this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required.

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
