A Polysomnographic Technologist works under the general supervision of the medical director or designee to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders including in center and out of center sleep testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care and direct patient education. A sleep technologist is able to perform the duties defined for a sleep technician and is able to provide oversight of other sleep center staff. The sleep technologist is credentialed in sleep technology.
A day in the life of a Polysomnographic Technologist at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

Determine final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and laboratory protocols.
Review the patient's history and verify the medical order.
When a patient arrives, verify identification, collect documents and obtain consent for the study.
Explain the procedure and orient the patient for either in center or out of center sleep testing.
Select appropriate equipment and calibrate for testing to determine proper functioning and make adjustments, if necessary.
Follow procedural clinical protocols to ensure collection of appropriate data.
Follow 'lights out' procedures to establish and document baseline values.
Perform data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free. Identify, correct and document artifact.
Document routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and other significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.
Follow 'lights on' procedures to verify integrity of collected data and complete the data collection process (e.g. repeat the physiological and instrument calibrations and instructs the patient on completing questionnaires, checking for completeness, etc.).
Generate accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data.
Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
Assist the medical director and/or manager in all aspects of sleep center operations.
Assist with maintenance and ordering of inventory and supplies.
Participate in community education/events as requested.
Act as a trainer/preceptor for sleep technicians and trainees.
Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
Obtain a minimum of 10 CEC's in sleep medicine annually.
Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
Polysomnography Technologist License.
Registered Sleep Technologist or Registered Polysomnography Technologist Certification or Registered Respiratory Therapist Sleep Disorders Specialty.
BLS AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
Compensation Minimum rate of $40.28 Hourly HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency for our team members. Posted hourly rates may be stated as an annual salary in the offer and posted annual salaries may be stated as an hourly rate in the offer, depending on the level and nature of the job duties and credentials of the candidate. Labor Market Data: Compensation is benchmarked against market data to ensure competitiveness.
Years of relevant work experience.
Level of education attained, including specialized certifications, credentials, completed apprenticeship programs or advanced training.
Internal Equity: Budget and Grant Funding: Departmental budgets and any grant funding associated with the job position may impact the pay that can be offered.
Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
