Medical ICU is a 20-bed mixed ICU/Step Down unit.
We have a combination of ICU 2:1 and Stepdowns are 3:1.
Floating to a sister unit is required for Step Down patients at a 1:3 or progressive level at a 4:1 ratio.
There is a weekend and holiday rotation commitment.
Patient population includes severe respiratory failure, such as pneumonia, ARDS, and COPD or asthma exacerbations, often requiring mechanical ventilation or high-flow oxygen support.
Sepsis and septic shock frequently require vasopressors, invasive monitoring, and aggressive fluid management.
Neurologic conditions include altered mental status, metabolic encephalopathy, overdose, or stroke (non-surgical).
Cardiac conditions that do not require immediate intervention are also managed, including heart failure exacerbations and post-cardiac arrest care.
Gastrointestinal and hepatic failure cases, including GI bleeding, acute liver failure, or pancreatitis, are part of our patient demographic.
Typical patient needs and acuity involve continuous cardiac and hemodynamic monitoring.
NIH and TNK therapy may be administered.
Mechanical ventilation, noninvasive ventilation, or advanced oxygen therapies are provided.
Enteral or parenteral nutrition is frequently necessary.
Laboratory monitoring and complex medication regimens are part of the standard care provided.
