Job Description

The Locksmith will be responsible for installing, repairing, modifying and opening a variety of locking mechanisms, doors and door hardware. The primary purpose of this position is to repair, test, install, and perform minor modifications to locking devices, including combination locks. Work includes the manufacture and duplication of keys and the keying and combination of locking mechanisms.

Responsibilities

Perform full repair cycle: locate trouble, disassemble, repair, clean, reassemble, and reinstall a wide variety of locking devices and locking bolts.

Perform minor modifications to key and combination locks, latches, safes, and vaults when the security of existing locks has been compromised.

Make new keys from duplicates, impressions, and key codes for a variety of key blanks.

Use and maintain tools, maintaining bench stock levels of parts, materials, tools, and equipment at prescribed levels.

Plan and lay out work from blueprints, sketches, specifications, and work orders.

Utilize safety and security practices and procedures, following established rules and regulations, and maintain a safe, clean, and secure work environment.

Perform general facility maintenance, carpet repairs, and other general labor as assigned.

Basic Requirements

Active or ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI with CI Polygraph.

U.S. Citizen.

Five (5) years of experience as a locksmith.

Ability to re‑key, master, and install locks, panic hardware, closures, and other related locking devices.

Knowledge of governmental safe locks such as X-09 and X-10 systems.

Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences, including management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors.

Job‑related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job.

Attentiveness to detail, and ability to work in a time‑conscious and time‑effective manner.

Knowledge of the internal structure and operating characteristics of standard mechanical and combination locks; ability to select tools, interpret technical diagrams and manuals, read manufacturer parts catalogs, and determine work sequence.

Knowledge of wood and metal types to select appropriate tools and equipment, and familiarity with key blanks for duplication.

Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures.

Skill in keying, rekeying, installing locks, using small hand tools and power tools common to the trade.

Ability to perform visual and operational checks and use dexterity and coordination between hands and eyes to remove broken keys and open standard locks.

Basic computer skills (email, internet, Microsoft Office, Word, Excel).

Additional Information

Salary range is $45,000.00 – $82,000.00. Background checks will be conducted as part of any conditional offer. Salary rate is $30 to $40 per hour plus a fringe rate of $4.98 per hour. The position requires authorization to work in the country where it is located.
