Set up and operate mechanical ventilators using invasive or non-invasive procedures on patients ranging from neonatal to adult; Perform ventilation therapies, ensuring proper selection of the delivery device, to ensure adequate patient oxygenation.
Educate patients and their caregivers about their conditions and teach appropriate disease management techniques, such as breathing exercises or the use of medications or respiratory equipment.
Conduct special procedures including electrocardiograms (EKGs), arterial blood gas tests (ABG), pulmonary function tests and surfactant delivery; assist physicians during caesarean section births, high-risk deliveries, and patient transport.
Maintain cleanliness of patient room and equipment, and prepare and calibrate equipment needed for testing.
Perform thorough patient assessments, obtain patient history, and elicit an accurate description of sleep problems in order to diagnose and treat patients with science-based medicine.
Required High School Diploma/GED
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
