Engineering Drafter

Job Description
Job Description As a Structural Drafter II, you will utilize Computer Assisted Drafting software and Building Information Modeling (BIM) Technology to develop construction documents and models for a variety of structural building projects. Your skills and experience will be key in visualizing structural designs, creating proposals, coordinating between design professionals and trades, detecting clashes, verifying constructability, and developing drawings to manufacture and fabricate innovative construction materials. Your work is vital to take a project from concept to completion.

Duties & Responsibilities
Prepare drawings of building structures, using computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment and software.
Coordinate with architects, engineers, and other construction professionals to ensure complete accuracy of drawings.
Revise drawings based on feedback from clients, engineers, and architects.
Research building codes and other regulations to ensure drawings meet all applicable standards.
Use AutoCAD or REVIT software to create 2D or 3D structural drawings as required for the project, including details, sections, and specifications.
Use Cadwork software to create 3D shop drawings for manufacture, fabrication, and assembly.
Generate three-dimensional (3D) models of structures for quantity takeoffs to aid the sales team in proposal development.
Prepare detailed plans and drawings for development of complete structural contract documents, including foundations, and framing.
Stay up to date on advances in drafting software and technology to maintain a high level of proficiency.
Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and other designers to ensure accuracy and feasibility of designs.
Create and revise drawings, models, and other documents using BIM software.
Conduct clash detection tasks to identify and resolve conflicts within BIM models.
Participate in meetings and collaborate with the project team to discuss and resolve matters related to model accuracy and project requirements.
Maintain project documentation to ensure up-to-date project status and compliance.
Create visualizations of future buildings for client approvals and regulatory body reviews.
Attend site visits to take measurements, photos, and sketch plans for use in modifying existing buildings.
Adhere to all company drafting standards and procedures.
Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Technical training in drafting, engineering, or related field
• 5+ years’ experience as a drafter or similar role
• Proficient in AutoCAD and REVIT
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
• Detail-oriented with strong visualization skills
• Flexibility to jump from project to project as required
• Organizational skills

Preferred Skills and Qualifications
Associate’s degree in drafting, engineering, or related field
AutoCAD professional certification
Hands-on construction experience
Proficiency in Navisworks or with other BIM software
Familiarity with building codes and standards
Working knowledge of construction methods and materials
Formal training or education in BIM

Work Environment/Physical Requirements
Office environment/desk work on a regular basis
Moderate/as needed travel to job sites required
May require standing for periods up to 10 hours a day
Jobsites may require climbing, crawling, bending, and lifting at times.

Supervision
~ This position is responsible for supervision of project team members on varying project scales.
