Interventional Radiology

Hours per Week: 37.5 Shift: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Schedule: Monday - Friday

Purpose of Position: This class of positions encompasses responsible clinical and administrative work of varying degrees of difficulty and responsibility involving day-to-day tasks of an operating segment of the Radiology department in the delivery of radiological services. Operates x-ray equipment, develops images, and prepares radiological areas, equipment, supplies and contrast materials. Assignment Level IV: Performs responsible supervisory, administrative and clinical activities involving day-to-day supervision of those performing specialized imaging procedures with diagnostic and interventional radiography. Assignment Level I: Prepares radiological area, equipment, contrast materials and supplies, as needed for patients. Adjusts equipment, determines proper voltage, current and desired exposure time, arranges immobilization and support devices to obtain position of patient, adjusts lead shield, and selects proper imaging techniques. Maintains supplies, equipment and required records. Transports and uses mobile x-ray equipment in patient care area as required. Effectively uses electronic medical records (EMR) to document patient encounters and access pertinent patient data and imaging results.

Assists Radiologists, other physicians and allied health care professionals in performing diagnostic or treatment procedures. Performs diagnostic testing on equipment and general maintenance. Monitors patient and equipment condition during procedure and reports changes to appropriate health care professional. Assists and guides radiographers in the performance of a wide variety of x-ray procedures. Trains and assists radiographers in a wide variety of x-ray procedures. Supervises radiographers and ancillary personnel assigned to the area. Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment to ensure operational viability of the area.

Assignment Level III: Supervises the delivery of radiological services, in accordance with established standards and procedures, for the service area or unit. Participates in the development of training programs for radiographic personnel, ancillary personnel and allied health care professionals. Demonstrates new or revised techniques, procedures and equipment. Performs special procedures including diagnostic and interventional radiography (e.g., and Mammography). Recommends area assignment of personnel to coordinate activities within the department with other activities and services and represents the department in interdepartmental operations and meetings. Participates in quality assurance activities, including coordination, control and maintenance of technical equipment. Participates in and coordinates procurement and storage of supplies and makes recommendations regarding supply and equipment needs. Performs research and participates in special projects involving evaluation of equipment and delivery of service. May be assigned duties and responsibilities of immediate Supervisor in their absence on a temporary basis.

Valid license and current registration to practice Diagnostic Radiography as a Radiologic Technologist issued by the NYSDOH; Two (2) years of Radiologic Technologist experience performing duties consistent with lower Assignment Levels, one (1) year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
