RN ICU Weekend Shifts Temporary

Nurse to patient ratios are typically 2:1. CRRT and IABP training are preferred but not mandatory. Common patient diagnoses include CHF, DKA, respiratory failure, metabolic acidosis, renal failure, and encephalopathy. A charge nurse is present on each shift and does not take an assignment. The availability of nurse aids/patient care techs depends on the day and unit census. Clientists and intensivists are in-house 24/7. Respiratory therapy is available in the unit around the clock. RNs are only required to troubleshoot equipment such as vents, BiPAP, and high flow oxygen. ICU nurses and the charge nurse are responsible for monitoring patient telemetry. Self-scheduling is allowed with weekend requirements of 6 shifts in a 6-week period. Weekend and holiday requirements include 1 major and 1 minor holiday for spring and fall.
