ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Reading Intervention Teacher is responsible for providing high-level literacy learning experiences to students with varying reading skills.

Be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, operation, and instruction of a reading intervention classroom.
Plan and effectively teach lessons that incorporate the Arizona Standards, district curriculum and student diagnostic test results.
Serve on DIBELS assessment team and other literacy related committees/teams.
Communicate with general education teachers regarding student intervention instructional methods, materials, and diagnostic information.
Implement reading instructional strategies that enable students to develop competencies and skills to become successful readers.
Provide individual and group instruction designed to meet each student's learning needs and motivate students to learn.
Establish and maintain standards of student conduct that create an environment conducive to student learning.
Evaluate student academic progress and maintains accurate records.
Identify student needs and collaborate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students progress academically
Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with staff, parents, and the public
Maintain a neat and orderly work area.
Attend meetings, district activities and trainings as assigned
Communicate effectively with students, parents, community and staff and produce high quality communiqu's.
Represent the District in a professional manner and in the best interest of the District.
Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

CERTIFICATES/LICENSES

Valid & Appropriate Arizona Teacher Certificate Reading Specialist Endorsement required Valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree from accredited university, including all courses to meet Arizona certification requirements. Master's degree in reading instruction preferred Three or more years of teaching experience preferred Above-average recommendations from teaching supervisors and other professionals who have observed the characteristics, scholastic attainment, and classroom performance of the teacher.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Able to communicate effectively with staff, students, and community members.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to address problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

BASIC SKILLS

Deep understanding of research and evidence-based practices for teaching reading and assessing student progress toward mastery of state and national standards. General knowledge research-based strategies in literacy, curriculum, and instruction. Conduct reading assessments, gather and assist in analyzing data, and write reports related to literacy. Use technologies in the teaching/learning process. Become familiar with the administration and interpretation of in-depth diagnostic measures or additional assessments commonly used in the school to determine students' academic needs and monitor student academic progress. Produce accurate work and complete assigned tasks independently, with minimal supervision. Perform all duties in accordance with Federal and State laws, district procedures, and Board policies. Ability to develop effective working rapport with students, staff, and community.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls and use a keyboard or keypad. The employee occasionally is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk or sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to ten pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus and monitor students on the periphery.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee regularly works indoors. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
