Hospital Phlebotomist Team Lead

Under general supervision, the Phlebotomist Sr. assists the Manager Phlebotomy-Customer Service in a multitude of ways, including coordinating the day-to-day workflow in the Specimen Collection area while performing the duties of a Phlebotomist II. This includes preparing work schedules, directing staff assignments, obtaining blood specimens, and resolving customer service complaints.

Demonstrates the ability to adapt technique/treatment to age of population served, including newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, while providing care/service with respect to cultural differences and spiritual needs

make work assignments and resolves day -to-day logistical problems to ensure specimens are collected in an orderly and timely fashion

Works closely with the manager in investigating and resolving more complex problems with patients, hospital staff, physicians or the department team to ensure improvements in processes and a high level of customer satisfaction

Orders lab tests and admits patients to computer system, determining which form to use based on type of insurance to ensure that the correct test is performed and charged

Performs customer service duties, including information dissemination to ensure that correct test is ordered and collected in the appropriate manner

Assists the manager in maintaining and ordering an adequate inventory of necessary supplies to ensure continued availability of needed supplies

Utilizes the laboratory information system to print labels, process specimens, track specimens, enter data, inquire about results and print reports to provide efficient specimen processing

Assists the manager in orienting, training and measuring the competency of employees to ensure development and maintenance of a competent workforce

Performs the duties of a Phlebotomist II to facilitate efficient operation

Monitors and evaluates the quality and appropriateness of care and practices identifying opportunities for improvement through collaboration

Properly handling and processing hazardous chemicals and waste as needed

Preferred Registration, Licensure or Certification

Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) from the ASCP Board of Certification

Successful completion of the phlebotomy orientation program and completion of all clinical competency requirements

Demonstrated ability and experience with the lab information system

Demonstrated knowledge and competency in adult, pediatric, and neonatal phlebotomy
