Job Opportunity

We are seeking an ASCP Certified Pathologists' Assistant (PA) to join our dynamic laboratory team in a high-volume acute care hospital setting. This role integrates knowledge, theory, and practical experience to perform essential laboratory procedures that aid healthcare providers in diagnosing, treating, monitoring, and preventing diseases.

Job Responsibilities

Receive, verify acceptability, and accession biological specimens according to department policies.

Process specimens for testing, interpretation, and submission to external laboratories as required.

Ensure accurate data entry throughout the specimen testing, interpretation, and reporting processes.

Follow policies to confirm positive patient identification during all laboratory procedures.

Maintain laboratory equipment and facilities in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Prepare, maintain, stock, and order necessary supplies and reagents.

Perform gross dissections and descriptions of pathology specimens of varying complexities.

Conduct intra-procedural consultations, including gross examinations and frozen sectioning.

Carry out all aspects of post-mortem examinations, including dissection and selection of tissues for evaluation.

Manage ancillary processes related to examinations, such as decalcification, photography, and x-ray imaging.

Oversee the storage, retrieval, and disposal of pathology materials, including tissues and chemical waste.

Audit accessioning and coding processes as a subject matter expert; provide feedback for improvement.

Troubleshoot laboratory issues and report findings to laboratory leadership.

Participate in compliance efforts and complete necessary documentation.

Contribute to the validation and implementation of new testing methodologies and platforms.

Complete quality control processes with thorough documentation.

Support laboratory functions as needed, adhering to regulatory standards and competencies.

Qualifications

ASCP Certification as a Pathologists' Assistant (PA) is required.

Minimum of 2 years of related experience in a laboratory setting.

Experience in processing specimens and performing gross examinations.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of patient care.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with healthcare providers and colleagues.

Work Schedule

This position is for a Day 5x8-Hour shift, from 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM.
