Full-Time Geologist

Job Description
CDM Smith is seeking a Geologist to join our Environmental Services team in New York City. Under direct supervision, the engineer performs basic to moderate complexity geologic/seismic evaluations, fault rupture hazard and slope stability investigations, and hydrogeologic analysis (aquifer test analysis, geochemical analysis, geotechnical analysis, contaminant transport analysis, etc.) in both surface and subsurface geologic conditions pertaining to water supply, contaminant and/or geotechnical assessments. Activities may include well geologic logging, water sampling, surface geological mapping, aquifer testing, soils characterization, data compilation and evaluation. The engineer prepares cross sections, isoconcentration maps, and QA/QC analysis, develops draft evaluations and calculations for compliance with federal, state and local regulations, and ensures firm policies and practices are followed on all assessments. Additionally, the role contributes to the firm’s TKM by developing white papers and technical design documentation of new or special case designs, submitting technical papers and designs for publishing, attending conferences and symposia to improve visibility of the firm’s products and services, and performing other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Science or related discipline; 1 year of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and essential functions of the position, which may vary with workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Driver’s License Requirements
An appropriate and valid driver’s license is required.

Skills and Abilities

Intermediate knowledge of computer‑assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices.

Basic knowledge of scientific methods and processes.

Expert knowledge of Microsoft business software (Excel, Word, etc.).

Good written and verbal communication skills.

Pay Range
Minimum: $72,966
Maximum: $120,349
