Tax preparers - accounting
Prepareandprosper
Work one-on-one with customers. Prepare their tax returns and get them their maximum refund. Encourage customers to meet with acustomer support volunteerto talk money and savings.
THE TASKS
Prepare state and federal tax returns using TaxSlayer software
Ask customers if they’d like to save some of their refund
Direct customers to work with the customer support volunteer to talk financial services
Provide stellar customer service and maintain customer privacy
THE SKILLS
Knowledge of basic income tax preparation and meet one of the following:
Have filed your own tax return
Taken a tax law or income tax accounting course at the college level
Work in the accounting field
Ability to effectively communicate and engage with customers
Computer proficient
Enjoy working in an ethnically and socio-economically diverse environment
THE COMMITMENT
Attend an info session before officially registering to volunteer
16-18 hours of training (primarily in-person)
Pass the (open book) IRS certification tests
Volunteer for one four-hour shift a week during tax season (January–April) or the summer (June-August) at one of our nine locations in Minneapolis, St. Paul, Bloomington, or Hopkins. Summer shifts are only available at the St. Paul main office.
