The CNA must be a compassionate and professional individual willing to carry out Penick Village’s vision and goals of delivering the highest level of care to those we serve. As a CNA, you must have strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to deal effectively with residents, families, physicians, community resources and visitors. The primary role of the CNA is to protect, sustain, and nurture our residents by providing assistance with activities of daily living, and meeting other needs as required. The core goal will be to provide excellent assistance, which promotes a high quality of life.

Recognize and respond to the needs of residents
Provide and maintain a clean and safe home for residents.
Assisting with personal care functions, including:
Dental and mouth care
Hair care
Bowel and bladder care
Other personal and hygiene care
Observe and report the presence of pressure areas to prevent decubiti’s and provide skin care according to policy.
Use only authorized abbreviations established by this facility when recording information.
Report all changes in the residents’ condition to the Charge Nurse as soon as possible.
Report all accidents and incidents you observe on the shift that they occur.
Inform supervisor of any changes in the resident’s condition so that appropriate information can be entered into the resident’s care plan.
Ensure that your notes/documentation reflect that the care plan is being followed.
Communicate with co-workers at all levels to meet the needs of residents.
Report any resident abuse or suspected abuse to the Healthcare Administrator or designee immediately.
Follow established safety precautions and observe, monitor and intervene or report to the Healthcare Administrator or designee, unsafe conditions in Penick Village.
Maintain confidentiality and privacy of resident care, procedures, and documentation.
Serve and clean up after meals and snacks.
Clean and maintain the environment in partnership with housekeeping to include daily trash collection, removal of food and other items, and light housekeeping.
Attend meetings and in-service training as scheduled.
Perform other related duties as required by the resident.

Must possess and demonstrate a personal presence by a sense of honesty, integrity and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Penick Village.
Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agency personnel and the public.
Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.
Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.
Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.

High school graduate or GED.
Required to have completed a CNA course and satisfactorily completed a competency assessment, approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
Listed on the North Carolina Health Care Personnel Registry in good standing.
Resident Rights Responsibilities and HIPAA:
Maintain confidentiality of all resident information.
Knock before entering a resident’s room.
Ensure that the resident’s rights to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to wage complaints, are well established and maintained at all times.
Review resident complaints and grievances and make written reports of action taken to the DON. Discuss with resident and family as appropriate and in a timely manner.
Maintain the confidentiality, privacy and security of all residents Protected Health Information (PHI). Sharing protected information about a resident is a violation of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Preserve the confidentiality and security of health information as required by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), whether on paper, electronically, verbally or any other format.
Keep confidential information of any kind concerning matters relating to my work or services for Penick Village, including confidential resident information that is not protected by HIPAA.
Will immediately report any known or suspected violation of the privacy or security of Private Health Information to the Penick Village Privacy Officer.
Understand that, to the fullest extent possible, I will be limited to only the resident information necessary to execute my specific job duties.

Expectation for Compliance in Job Performance:
Adherence to the Code of Conduct is part of the Performance Assessment.
May be pulled to work in other Healthcare areas.
Normally a 36-hour work week that includes weekends and Holidays.
Occasional overtime for schedule coverage and special events.
May be required to work every other holiday (Example: 2023 work Christmas Day- off Christmas Eve; 2024 off Christmas Day- work Christmas Eve)

Must work (2) 12-hour shifts per 4 week schedule, (1) shift per pay period, (1) 12- hour shift must be on a Saturday or Sunday

Personnel Protective Equipment - use PPE as necessary for the job
Reports unsafe working conditions- such as wet floors, exposed wires, blocked doorways, obstructions to fire extinguishers, etc.

Works in resident areas as well as throughout the nursing service area
Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, under all conditions and circumstances.
Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel and visitors.
Is subject to callback during emergency conditions.
Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc. Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the workday, as well as to reactions from dust, plastics, synthetics, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other potential contaminants.
May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.

Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical examination.
Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility.
Sitting: 1-2 hours per 8-hour shift. Standing: 2-3 hours per 8-hour shift. Walking: 4-5 hours per 8-hour shift. Rarely (to assist with transporting from hospital)
There may be an instance in which an employee may need to assist a resident from the floor in the event that a mechanical lift cannot be utilized. In the event of an emergency situation such as evacuation, an employee may need to assist with evacuating a resident from the building which may require lifting.
