As an Inpatient Coding Auditor, you will audit inpatient coders and offshore inpatient coding auditors to ensure coding accuracy standards are met. You will communicate frequently via phone, email, and instant messaging with various client teams and payers. Reports are submitted to the Huron Managed Services Domestic Coding team.
Key Responsibilities
Demonstrate Huron’s Vision and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.
Lead monitoring of inpatient coding accuracy, ensuring a minimum of 95% coding and DRG accuracy.
Perform quality checks and calibration audits, and conduct calibration sessions with offshore team counterparts and leaders.
Assist in preparing audit reports, provide direct feedback to coders and auditors on opportunities for improvement, and participate in client interactions and internal stakeholder meetings.
Maintain firm understanding of clinical documentation guidelines and monitor compliance of coding guidelines.
Conduct analysis and present findings to leadership in a clear, concise, and actionable format.
Utilize encoder software applications and online tools to assign ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, MS-DRG, APR-DRG, POA, SOI & ROM codes.
Ensure appropriate capture of U.S. federal, state, and local coding guidelines and regulations.
Maintain professional and ethical standards, stay updated on changes in inpatient reimbursement guidelines and new coding applications (e.g., Hospital at Home).
Perform other duties as assigned.
Core Qualifications
Current permanent United States work authorization required.
U.S. day‑shift schedule required.

- years of experience in coding inpatient hospital accounts.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio, SharePoint).
Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and workflow process skills.
Excellent time‑management, organizational, and prioritization skills.
Independent judgment and decision‑making abilities.
Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to work independently.
Experience working with data from various sources preferred.
Familiarity with revenue cycle systems and financial analysis preferred.
Desire to work as part of a partnership team.
Flexible and adaptable to change.
Physical Demands
This role requires remaining seated at a desk/computer for 8 hours daily; repetitive use of keyboard and mouse; use of computer monitors for 8 hours daily; interaction through video/audio conference calls; rarely requires lifting up to 20 pounds and bending & standing for periods.
Technical Qualifications
Required Certifications: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) or Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP).
Preferred Certifications: AHIMA microcredential “Auditing: Inpatient Coding (AIC)”, RHIA, Encoder experience (3M/Solventum, Encoder Pro, Codify), Epic, Cerner, Meditech.
Key Performance Indicator (KPI) Expectations: Coding Auditing Productivity ≥ 95%, DRG Accuracy Rate ≥ 95%, Coding Accuracy ≥ 95%, Query Compliance: 100% adherence to AHIMA/ACDIS standards.
Compensation
Estimated pay range: $38.46-$52.40 per hour.
Pay is paid individually based on skills, certifications, experience, market changes, and required travel. The position is eligible for Huron’s benefit plans including medical, dental, vision, and wellness programs.
