Utility Locator (Hourly)

Utility Locate LeadLocation: St Paul, Cottage Grove, Hastings, Rosemount, Apple Valley, South St. Lake Superior Consulting (LSC) is seeking a Utility Locate Lead to join our growing team! This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced locator to step into a leadership role supporting the day-to-day operations of our utility locating and leak detection services. As a Utility Locate Lead, you'll work hands-on in the field while mentoring and supporting technicians to ensure safety, accuracy, and efficiency across all projects. We take pride in our strong team dynamic, open communication, and shared commitment to doing the right thing for our clients, our communities, and each other.What You'll Do:Lead and support field technicians to complete locate requests safely, accurately, and within required timelines.Perform underground utility locates using electronic locating equipment and APWA color standards.Read and interpret utility maps and prints to identify underground facilities.Assist in training, mentoring, and developing new and existing team members.Coordinate with the Utility Supervisor and field staff to manage daily workload and priorities.Complete documentation for locates, crossings, and excavation projects accurately and on time.Promote a strong safety and quality culture throughout all field activities.Communicate clearly with supervisors, clients, and coworkers to ensure efficient operations.Participate in on-call rotations and ensure equipment readiness for field projects.What You Bring:High School Diploma or equivalent (required).2–3 years of utility locating experience (required).Strong knowledge of utility locating methods, equipment, and industry standards.Commitment to working safely and providing high-quality service.Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions.Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).Availability to travel and participate in on-call rotations.Ability to work in a physically demanding outdoor environment and traverse rugged terrain.Exposure to varying weather conditions (heat, cold, precipitation).Ability to travel to offsite locations for extended periods as needed.Willingness to work extended hours when project schedules require.Why You'll Love Working at LSC:Training & Growth: We're invested in your development from day one.Tools & Technology: You'll be equipped with reliable tools and a company laptop for field use.Weekend & Holiday Pay: Earn extra for weekend or holiday work.Comprehensive Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, company-paid life insurance, short/long-term disability, PTO, 12 paid holidays, and tuition reimbursement.Impact: Be part of a team that protects critical energy infrastructure and the communities that depend on it.The actual starting salary will be determined based on a variety of factors, including your skills, experience, and office/market location. The anticipated salary/hourly range for this position is $25-$29/hr.
