Mechanical Engineering Maintenance

Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer at our Toledo, OH HBI location. The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for providing maintenance engineering support to ensure plant equipment availability is maximized. This position will be responsible for support to the operation through analysis of equipment health and recommending strategies to increase the time between overhauls. This role serves as a technical resource for planning, scheduling, and execution of mechanical maintenance. This position will be responsible for supporting plant reliability using knowledge of mechanical systems to troubleshoot and decrease lost opportunities.

Designing and specifying mechanical equipment and systems such as piping, vessels, rotating equipment, and conveyors.

Monitoring equipment health and plant reliability performance.

Conducting equipment failure investigations and Root Cause Analyses (RCA).

Utilizing predictive maintenance technologies, including vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography, ultrasonics, NDE/NDT inspection methods, and motor circuit analysis.

Reviewing maintenance data and CMMS information to optimize preventive maintenance programs.

Supporting operations and maintenance teams with troubleshooting and technical guidance.

Managing equipment reliability strategies and equipment resisters.

Developing capital project justifications, budgets, and cost-saving initiatives.

operating conditions, hardware change recommendations, monitoring process conditions, and unit performance reporting/comparison (benchmarking).

Analyze operational and maintenance equipment history to deliver improvements in critical maintenance related metrics and KPI's.

Direct and coordinate the work performed by operating employees as required for new equipment installations or testing to ensure conformity to engineering design and specifications.

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

3+ years of plant-level maintenance mechanical engineering experience with mechanical systems in the petrochemical, metals, or mineral processing industry.

Knowledge of machinery design, statistics and project management required.

Excellent computer skills with high proficiency while working within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and utilizes its functionality to correlate the data for reliability analysis.

Experience in predictive technologies such as NDE/NDT, oil analysis, vibration analysis, thermography, ultrasonics, and motor circuit analysis.

Ability to work under minimal supervision and effectively manage multiple/changing priorities.

Demonstrated equipment troubleshooting skills.

Routinely exposed to plant environment including noise, dust, dirt and vibrations, extreme climate changes / changes in weather.
